How does food compare ship to ship for the same restaurants?

Recommended Posts

How is the food quality in the WJ and MDR etc in the older ships compared to the newer Oasis Class Ships?

Is it the generally same quality and variety? Or because the older ships fare price is less the quality and selection less.

We were on the Rhapsody a few weeks ago and will be on the Oasis in a few weeks. When we sailed the Oasis last May, the menus that we had on the Rhapsody in the MDR were the same and the food in the WJ was about the same. We did not notice any major differences between the variety and quality in both the MDR and the Windjammer.

I would say that because the contracts with the major food provisioners take advantage of fleet wide bulk contracts, that the cruise lines don't commit to a lower quality of bacon, shrimp banana, potato, chicken breast, lamb shank, hot dog, flour, tortilla shell etc based on the price of the cruise fare.

This may not only vary ship to ship, but season to season as personnel move around. My MDR meals on Freedom have been consistently better (2 cruises) than on the Oasis class (3 cruises) I've found the WJ on Jewel to have better food than other ships, hope that holds.
