slcreads Posted May 5, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2018 After searching through the forum I found several threads that said you could get a voucher for your unused non-refundable obc to give to the butler and/or concierge as part of their tip. Has anyone on the forum actually done this? And, if so, any feedback from Your butler/concierge on the useability of the voucher on their end? jaja Posted May 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2018 I have done it. Not sure what you mean by feedback....on departure I gave each a note saying thank you and that their tip was coming via guest relations dept.
Two Wheels Only Posted May 5, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 5, 2018 As you probably read, many (myself included) have done it. As far as whether the butler/concierge receives 100%, 50%, or 1% of that amount is between NCL and the employee. The same can be true of cash. cruisinginmay Posted May 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 5, 2018 Am I correct in my understanding that I can also use OBC for the service charges (gratuities)?
Two Wheels Only Posted May 5, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 5, 2018 Am I correct in my understanding that I can also use OBC for the service charges (gratuities)? It depends on what type of OBC you plan to use to pay the DSC.
cruisinginmay Posted May 5, 2018 #6 Share Posted May 5, 2018 It says Non-Refundable.
Sauer-kraut Posted May 5, 2018 #7 Share Posted May 5, 2018 Am I correct in my understanding that I can also use OBC for the service charges (gratuities)? It says Non-Refundable. No, non-refundable is not eligible for the daily service charge.

cruisinginmay Posted May 6, 2018 #10 Share Posted May 6, 2018 Well, I tried to do a screen shot but didn’t seem to work. Anyway, it says OBC, whether refundable or not, can be used to pay DSC.

Has anyone on the forum actually done this? And, if so, any feedback from Your butler/concierge on the useability of the voucher on their end? Yes. I did this on the Getaway in April of 2015. Butler seemed fine with it, I have to assume its as good as giving cash.

I'm not sure where you're getting that from, (and am not surprised if NCL has bad info up on their website somewhere), but nonrefundable onboard credit definitely cannot be used for the Daily Service Charge: Note: Onboard credit has no monetary value and is non-transferable. It may not be used toward onboard service charges or pre-purchased activities. Restrictions may apply. slcreads Posted May 10, 2018 Author #14 Share Posted May 10, 2018 Thanks everyone for your replies. Who knows if we will actually have any unused non~refundable OBC at the end of the cruise. But if we do I’d like to put it to good use and pass it along to the butler or concierge. Doesn’t make sense to leave it unused and going back to NCL. don't-use-real-name Posted May 10, 2018 #15 Share Posted May 10, 2018 Basically the Non-Refundable OBC can be used for anything on the ship EXCEPT the DSC. Applications to use NR OBC - - - Tips to specific crew members UBP Beverage package purchased on board Drinks and charges over any UBP Specialty Dining extra entrées etc. Wi-Fi Shore Excursions Cruise Next Certificates (and you get more real OBC) Gift Shop Duty Free Photo Gallery Java Coffee Specialty Cakes Ice Cream Theatre Show Souvenirs Bingo Games Birthday/Anniversary Cakes Spa Beauty Barber Services Viva Vino Wine Packages Corks N' Caps Packages Bar-Set-Up Room Service Art Gallery ??? anyone comments on this ? Anything missed ? ? ? I am not a user of the Casino - but have read here (CC) that you can use the NR OBC in the casino and cash it out with a service fee. Readers is that still a working solution ? Remember to try to use up or apply all of the NR OBC before the last night of the cruise !
emcelh Posted May 10, 2018 #16 Share Posted May 10, 2018 You can definitely use it for tips for butler and concierge. Just make sure you have their full name when you go to guest services. We've done this on every cruise the last several years.
peg013 Posted May 10, 2018 #17 Share Posted May 10, 2018 We have also used non-refundable OBC to tip the butler and concierge. According to several concierge's they receive 100% of the amount left for them on a voucher with their next pay.
