Question for those who EMBARKED from Dublin

Recommended Posts

We had plans to split a taxi from our hotel to the port with another couple (met in the roll call - we are not traveling together.) Our hotel is on the outskirts of Dublin and more pricey than if we were all staying in city centre.

They can board at 11:30am (and for various reasons, need to board early). We are in the cheap seats without elite status and have been told not to turn up for boarding until 3:30pm.

Normally, we would just go earlier, plead ignorance, say please and breeze on through. BUT Dublin is a small building and this is the first and only time we've ever received arrival time instructions via a preboarding email.

Obviously, we're not going to sit in the terminal for hours - we'll be way more comfy in a pub. And they need to board earlier. I'm inclined to give up on the shared taxi. Any other thoughts from those who have ACTUALLY embarked from Dublin?

change hotel to city centre then get the hotel to store your bags until you are ready to head to the port

or head to the port after 1pm & wait until they let you board

3:30pm sounds late for boarding .

Gee, whiz - wish we could do that. We made these hotel reservations seven months ago. There is an Ed Sherran concert in Dublin that week and 70% of the hotels were sold out. Those that had availability had increased their prices 3x-4x. We leave next Wednesday.

So thanks for the suggestion, but its not an option.

Hi, just off the April 30th sailing. We are select with Celebrity and had received an email a couple of weeks before stating that Select and above could board at anytime after 10:30. About 5 days before sailing we got another email and this time it said Elite and above could board anytime after 10:30 and as our cabin was on the 3rd floor we should board at 3:30. I took a copy of the first email and showed up at 11. There were not many people there and no one checked to see if we should be boarding. I don't think you will have any problem if you show up early.

Before the April 30, 2018 sailing, we stayed at the Aberdeen Lodge in Sandymount (area 4) which is south of Dublin. Very nice upscale neighborhood/ village with plenty to do. Near lots of Embassies, restaurants, pubs, etc. Also right on the DART line--we took this electric train south to the seaside town of Greystones one day. We had already been to Dublin a few years ago. Taxi to the port from Sandymount was 18 euro for the two of us. According to locals, the plan is to raze and rebuild the port area into a "new destination" able to support cruise ships, visitors, etc. This will take 20 years or so. Meanwhile, there will be lots of growing pains with cruise ships starting to be based out of there. They are working the taxi issue. When we got off the ship this past Thursday, we had a prearranged driver. He was late--there was an accident in the port area, but the big problem was the tunnel was closed due to an "incident". The traffic was horrible both ways and it was rush hour. A lot of people got super stressed out waiting for transportation. We are really glad we had booked a hotel near the airport for that night instead of trying to make a tight connection (1051 am flight). Weather in Iceland was cold, wet, sleet, snow, and brutal winds, be prepared.
