Best Practical Jokes on Board?? Harmless suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Our group played a joke on our wait-staff in MDR. We realised that the dessert menus are double sided, and that last night's menu was on the back of tonight's one handed out to us. So we all turned them over in the folder and started to order our desserts, ordering from last nights menu with straight faces. The waiter got all confused, looked at our menus, raced to the other table where he had just handed out their dessert menus, and now was even more confused, as their ones were of course correct.

Eventually he realised what we had done & we all had a good laugh, and we had a few more laughs on subsequent nights. All good fun.

We seem to have different ideas regarding what constitutes harmless fun. What would be funny for me is one of these pranks to misfire and you are escorted off the ship. That would make me laugh so much.

If I was on your cruise, I would join in and help you prank the others.

Like the ringing them up and being angry crew staff.

You could also get someone fun like me, to gain access to their room (with your help) and pretend when they returned, that it was my room and they had got the wrong deck.

You could also invite them to events, that was not happening in that venue at all and see how long they sit there and wait.

How about have a chat with the bar staff and every drink they order, they get a non-alcoholic version instead, this is great if on a package and for the 'fun police', the alcohol can always be added afterwards, so not to avoid wasting the drink.

OK so online you can buy a remote doorbell that sounds like the BING BONG many ships do before announcements come over the PA. I planted one behind the TV in my DD's room (she was with her BFF and I was with my BFF). So we were in their cabin and I hit the remote. BING BONG. I said "Oh they're going to do an announcement" and then I said "guess they decided not to." Well over the course of the next few days that thing BING BONG'd on and off at odd hours ( Heck....I'd be in my jammies outside her door pressing the button and running). On about day 3 I had it in my pocket, pressed it and she was so ticked off.

She said "This D*** bell goes off at all hours and I don't know where it is coming from. And she grabbed the phone to call the front desk to complain. At this point my friend and I had to come clean. 10 years later we still chuckle about it.

Love it - This is tooo Funny - Thanks :)

We have played the rubber snake bit on the cabin steward, only we put it inside the medicine cabinet. Also, the fake bloody hand under the pillow. Fake rubber mouse left somewhere in the cabin.

I'm sure your room steward had a blast. Hope he took care of you or at least your toothbrushes.

Maddie,

Understand that these harmless jokes are not only dished out by me, by are equally received by me... My traveling companions are playful & in good spirit also. Our intentions are never to get innocent bystanders involved OR to spoil anyone's personal vacation. We are really trying to keep this harmless, and are adults with a playful side.

About 5 years ago on Allure my husband changed his voice and called my brother’s room (from somewhere else on the ship) and pretended to be room service scolding him for ordering 27 pancakes. He went on to say that he tried to deliver it and no one was there. How much he was going to be charged....I don’t remember all the details, but my brother got super defensive and frustrated. It was a good laugh. My brother also slept on a chocolate mint on a cruise when we were kids and really messed up the sheets. He’s easy to pick fun at! He can laugh with us later.

I think you hit the nail on the head... The participants must be "good sports" in order for these type of jokes to be taken in stride. I understand (based on the naysayers on this thread) that some people hate tomfoolery & practical jokes - I would never willingly enact something in poor taste to someone you know would not find a good laugh out of it, just as your brother did later on! 27 Pancakes - too funny!!1

Thanks for your comments :)

I hope more people add to the prank list! I may have to do the water or electric surcharge!!!! This isn't on a cruise but I pulled a April Fools Joke on my family this year. We do a family cruise each year. So we have a FaceBook page where we can talk and plan the cruise. So I run the page and I'm the go to cruise guy. I am the one with the answers or take the time to find out the answer. (from here- Bob has been a BIG help :) ) Anyway, I started a few days before April 1st. By asking if anyone got a weird email from RCCL asking if anyone under 18 was in our group. Kept it going with I called resolution and waiting for them to call back with more info. To the point that our cruise was cancelled because a NUDE CRUISE had booked the whole cruise. RCCL would only let us change for a cruise in Miami but would have to pay the rates as of that date. Well, I told them after 3 days that I was joking. Now I am no longer in charge of the board and no one believe anything I say now :) But it was a HELL of a laugh!!!!!

Too Funny - Thanks BlueSkySailing!

Some that is not really a "prank" but a fun activity.

I like to go to the top deck late at night and throw pool lounge chairs over the side of the ship.

We always get a kick out of that one...

You are a Genius. You are killing two birds with one stone. This is truly the only way to keep those chair hogs from getting their way. And you are having funny fixing that issue. BTW- I am in one way condoning anyone to kill birds with stones. That would be wrong!

Personally I don't find this even remotely funny. This was a cruel and abusive act. Abusive because customers in this environment have a certain power over employees. Certainly the employee would have had to go along with the "jokes" to insure no loss of gratuity.

Acts that interfere with others doing their jobs is not "all good fun."

You have to be real careful playing jokes on someone serving you food. They have the opportunity to get the last laugh! :D

Indeed about Servers... They can have the last laugh. Like I said before, if you have a friendly waiter, cabin attendant, bartender etc, bring them in on the fun... This assures not harming others... and if they are playful, they will enjoy the gag (the key here is to stay "harmless"

I agree. People working on ships are not your friends or even equal in the relationship. So putting them in a situation where they are obliged to play along is not my idea of fun.

Depends if your practical joke spills over to me or the people I am traveling with, then your fun will be short lived.

You had to go there. Vailed threats. Come on. It’s a gag! Loosen up. You Sir, scare no one! I am not a fan of sophomoric humor, but would never interfere.

I actually like this one.

I have been a little negative in my other comments because I have known well meant pranks to backfire. But amongst friends that you know well, I really don't have a problem as long as it doesn't involve others.

As you can see from this thread, not everyone shares the same sense of humour.

WOW man is all that I can say!! Not friends? How many people hug the employees after a great week ? Equal ?? Wow, so because they work on a Cruise Ship they are your servants & not equal? PEOPLE... PLEASE KEEP THIS LITE-HEARTED!! If I have a waiter or cabin person that is not playful, jovial, smiling etc (you can feel a vibe)... I won't involve them, simple as that! No one should feel uncomfortable!

Can we please get on the harmless fun this post is meant for ???

Lots of simple gags on here being received by someone who treats them as fair play, and part of vacation. GEEZE!

Wait, are we talking about pranks on other people in your group? Or on random strangers/crew?

If the latter, I would definitely have to agree, not funny and not harmless. Don't mess with strangers, it's just common sense... Especially if they handle your food!

But if you're talking about friends and family, people you already know, then game on, I guess.

Not making a veiled threat, as the odds of any of you in this thread sailing with me and affecting me with your dumb fun are miniscule. That said, when you do something that negatively affects another passenger, don’t be surprised when things then escalate beyond laughter.
