MurfAtHome Posted January 2, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2006 What advantages are there to booking your next cruise while still on a cruise?I know they encourage you to do this while still on the ship. Do you just put a deposit down just like usual? Just curious! Thanks:D
flagger Posted January 2, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2006 The biggest advantage is the shipboard credit per cabin (not per person) for booking. It starts at $50 for a 3/4 day cruise and goes up to a max of I think $200 for the longest cruises (maybe 12 days or more). We paid our deposit right away but had the option of extending the deposit due date by quite a bit of time (30 days or so) after it was transferred to our regular TA. Jarronwood Posted January 2, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2006 Do I take it that the shipboard credit given is only valid on the cruise put your deposit down. In other words, you cant use it on your current cruise?
truffles2 Posted January 2, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 2, 2006 That is correct...it will be applied to the cruise that you book.

Lou_70 Posted January 2, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2006 you can book on the cruise and have the booking transfered to your TA and you keep the onboard credit..
raytownlady Posted January 2, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 2, 2006 Actually, it's the only advantage. You're correct, that's the only advantage I can see.
flagger Posted January 2, 2006 #8 Share Posted January 2, 2006 Actually, it's the only advantage.I disagree. I found the LA had access to staterooms that were available that my TA did not. There is also the advantage of getting the best available price for the cruises further away.
truffles2 Posted January 2, 2006 #9 Share Posted January 2, 2006 I agree with flaggers previous statement. You can make changes later on and still keep the credit as long as you keep the same booking number.
rubrrick Posted January 2, 2006 #10 Share Posted January 2, 2006 Also, if you have made friends with the LA, and are really undecided about the cruise that you want, but know the length of it, they do have coupons that they can sign to give you a shipboard credit for a future cruise. I know this for a fact, as we did it on the Legend, and later, back at home booked the Jewel for our transatlantic. Rick

Shak Posted January 2, 2006 #12 Share Posted January 2, 2006 It is a nice advantage to book on board but there are pitfalls too. The shipboard credit does come in handy. If you wait to book onboard for your next cruise a couple of bad things can happen. One is the price of the cruise may go up. This actually happened to me. My TA talked me into reserving the cruise a couple of months before going on the trip. My plan was to book it on board and then cancel the reservation I had with my TA and then give her the other reservation. A couple of weeks before the cruise the price of the future cruise went up $200 each. If I would have waited it would have cost me more to go on the future cruise. The other disadvantage you may run into is not getting the room or location you desire. Shak

I do not know about the number of rooms you can booked though. Another poster may be able to answer that question.
