brandybit Posted May 29, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2018 we are taking the fast direct train to Civitavecchia from Rome Termini after arriving on a train from Venice. Do we board this train in the same platform area or do we have to do that long walk down to platforms 27-30? Worried about our 45 min connection. Also, we arrive in Civitavecchia at 1:00. I have heard the busses don't run from 12-2, so how do we get to the shuttle for the ship, or is it best to try to get a taxi from the train station to the ship? Rare Hlitner Posted May 29, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2018 Yes, its still somewhat of a hike to the platforms for the Civitavecchia train (in Termini). If the shuttle bus is not running during lunch you might want to simply leave the station, get some lunch of your own, and later return for the shuttle :). That would be the Italian way. "Relax! Enjoy" "Eat". If there happens to be a taxi at the station they will take you to your pier...for a price. But you can never count on waiting taxis and there is a good chance they would also be enjoying lunch (possibly sharing a table with the bus drivers). brandybit Posted May 30, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted May 30, 2018 I thought I read somewhere that if you take the fast direct train to Civitavecchia you do not have to take that long walk to the platforms where the regional trains depart from, that they depart from the same platforms where the trains come in from Venice. Problem with waiting for the local buses to start running again is that we have to be onboard the ship by 3:00! Hope there are taxis waiting at the train.... Voelfgar Posted May 30, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 30, 2018 It may take some early early mornings, but you could go to http://www.romatermini.com and like an airport it has arrivals and departures and what platform they are arriving at. That may give you a good idea as to where the trains you are interested in arrive and depart from.
euro cruiser Posted May 30, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2018 Regional trains leave from the auxiliary tracks, about three city blocks from the main track head. If you are on an IC or a Frecce train to Civitavecchia these trains leave from the main trackhead. In either event, 45 minutes is plenty of time to make the transition. You are correct that there is a break in the schedule between noon and 2:20 PM: http://static.civitavecchia.gov.it/uploads/2016/09/LINEA-SPECIALE.pdf
cruisinsc1 Posted May 31, 2018 #7 Share Posted May 31, 2018 Not sure how much luggage you have, but if there is no bus, it's about a 20 minute walk from the train station to the shuttle stop.
