One of the great things about Vancouver for cruisers is that we have conveniently placed the pier, almost all downtown hotels, and the vast majority of our popular touristy things in the downtown core. So basically ANY hotel works for easily getting to the pier - the most important consideration for all is what you plan to do pre-cruise (no point choosing a hotel next to Stanley Park if you hate the outdoors and want to spend all your time eating and drinking in Gastown!) so that you are closest to the things you plan to visit most, so you can walk to those.

You know your budget, dates, hotel chain memberships etc. - without that info I can only suggest you check a website like Expedia, Hotels.com etc to get a range of pricing on your dates, cross-reference with TripAdvisor for reviews, and always remember to double-check location on a map as we have multiple towns & cities & sub-sections of Vancouver with very similar names but quite different locations (there are up to 3 hotels within the same chain/with almost identical names spread across the area too).

Living downtown I'm really only in hotels for their restaurants - we did have a stay in the Fairmont Waterfront last month (nice, but pricey) and when we visited before moving we stayed in the YWCA, which remains the best bargain in the region and is consistently among the top 20-25 hotels on review sites. As long as you can cope with 'staying at the Y' it's an absolute no-brainer choice (they do have regular en suite double rooms like other hotels, as well as the even cheaper shared bathroom/large family room setups). Colleagues of my wife who visit all give L'Hermitage or Fairmonts as their faves - but again, none of these are cheap options.

We treated ourselves and stayed there once pre-cruise. It was glorious. I think we got a nice rate from our TA but yeah, still pricey.

We also like the Blue Horizon, paying extra for a higher floor. Very worth it. :)

All depends on value proposition and what you are looking to do pre-cruise.

Most people don't expect the Y to own a hotel, however the one in Vancouver has some hotel floors. I have never stayed there, but many people have had positive things to say about it.

I was based out of Victoria for a while and still have a number of co-workers based out of Victoria. The Days Inn has been our favorite. However it is a Days Inn, and has that mid-market feel and furniture.

The Pan Pacific is a very high-end hotel.

There are a number of hotels outside of the downtown core. If your arriving late, just looking for a place to sleep and then heading to the pier the next day, Richmond is not a bad choice as it is close to the airport. If want to spend some time in a casino the River Rock Casino and Hotel is a good option that is also next to the Canada line skytrain station if you want to a subway ride to the pier instead of a taxi.
