SC Maverick Posted June 4, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Have read several people about ease of embarkation using mobile passport. What is this? On previous cruise filled out forms, meet with customs official, and brought luggage before putting it out later that evening. Any advice?

Flatbush Flyer Posted June 4, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Not an actual passport. Rather an app that let's you fill out the customs declaration form without paper and pen. If you want expedited return to the US, get "Global Entry" from US-CBP, which also includes "TSA Precheck" for departures.
Underwatr Posted June 4, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 4, 2018 If you're at a port of Entry where Mobile Passport is accepted (Port Everglades plus a growing list of international airports), you can use the Mobile Passport in lieu of filling out a paper Customs Declaration (Form 6059) and then you get to use the Mobile Passport lanes (usually they're the Global Entry lanes) rather than the general passenger lanes. If you're returning to a US cruise port other than Port Everglades it won't be of much use to you.
Capt_BJ Posted June 4, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 4, 2018 utility is questionable given that many ports no longer require the paper form at all . . .
Rare sprint180 Posted June 4, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 4, 2018 In November and again in Febr. in Port Everglades we did not have to do the customs sheet or the mobile passport. Is that in all ports or just there?
Underwatr Posted June 4, 2018 #7 Share Posted June 4, 2018 In November and again in Febr. in Port Everglades we did not have to do the customs sheet or the mobile passport. Is that in all ports or just there? According to the Mobile Passport site, the only cruise port so far is Port Everglades (PE was a sponsor of the app development). When I went through in March I saved about 15 minutes not having to wait in the long line. I was directed to the Global Entry/Mobile Passport queue which was empty. Even if the people in the long line didn't need the customs declaration they were still in a long line.
zqvol Posted June 4, 2018 #8 Share Posted June 4, 2018 It is much more useful for air travel than cruising. It acts as a modified form of Global Entry and speeds up clearing times, but the only cruise port where it can be used is FLL.
