Princess itself, and Carnival more generally, are significantly increasing capacity in this market.  Royal will not want to concede market share to a direct competitor and will respond.

At some point, market share will be meaningless when no one is making money.  RCI abandoned the west coast of the USA.

I believe overcapacity, in the entire cruise industry, will be a real issue in the next few years.

Yes, that's right.

We saw the cruise lines pile into China with large capacity increases and they are now sending that capacity elsewhere.  Overcapacity will bring lower prices when it becomes a global issue.

I heard recently an expert in industry say that less than 3% of potential cruise market has been touched.  .

I was told today (in a Southampton travel agent / cruise shop), there's a third RC ship going to be based in Southampton in 2020 but she wasn't allowed to tell me which. Anyone heard anything regarding this? Apparently public knowledge from Monday!

Perhaps Quantum 5 goes to Southampton when Anthem goes back to the states in November 2020.  I believe Quantum 5 is a fall delivery, but I could be wrong.

MAYBE indeed QUantum 5 after her delivery.

When QUantum, Anthem and Ovation debuted, they also were deployed from Southampton: Quantum for her maiden Transatlantic Voyage to Bayonne, Anthem for a full season, Ovation for a mini season to Western Europe and the Repositioning to Rome, and than down to Middle and Far East.

So I think Quantum 5 will do her maiden voyage from Southampton to either Bayonne or Florida.

Who says that?

She is being build on a river.

In order to get her into the open seas the water level of the river has to be raised significantly - causing  floods on the fields around it.

This is only permittable after September 30th and takes several days/weeks.

So we are looking at a date later than mid October 2020👍

Perhaps Harwich instead for 3rd ship?

Meyer Werft has 3 new buildings in 2020. The Iona in the spring, the Spirit of Adventure in the summer.

So it is just logical that the Quantum 5 will be delivered sometimes in Oct/Nov if all goes well.

Spirit of Adventure is built in a separate dock so this is no issue. However, as said before the agreement between the yard and the government allows the use of the river barrier that is needed to increase the water level for delivery of big ships only between October and March.

I heard Europe Phase 1 is scheduled to be released today.  Does anyone know what falls under Phase 1?  Looking to do Greece in 2020.  Rhapsody is there now but not sure if she will be doing Greece in 2020.  Has anybody heard which ships will be in Greece?

Thanks for for your help.

Europe Phase 1 includes probably only the uk sailings. Rhapsody 99% will continue doing the popular itineraries from Venice as it seems from the port listings. Vision will be in the area too. It is also believed that Explorer will take the place of Jewel and offer some cruises to Greece too. All those according to the port listings. Europe Phase II is gonna be open for booking on the week of 19th December.

So we can hope for Explorer replacing Jewel r/t Rome May 2020 Greek Isles to be available Dec 19th?

I was confused, like the previous poster I was expecting to be able to book today.

Thank you Patty
