short timer Posted June 17, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2018 Was wondering if there is an ATM on board? We will be traveling for almost 6 weeks and don't want to carry that much cash. Husband likes the casino. Thanks.

Husband likes the casino.Thanks. The only ATM I've ever seen on a HAL ship was on the Koningsdam. That was about 18 months ago, and I was told other ships would be getting them, but I don't know if any have yet. The one on the K carried a $6.50 flat fee, and you can get a cash advance on your on-board account for a 3% fee at the casino or office, so for amounts less than $217 the cash advance is a better option. Another thing you can do is buy OBC for yourself in advance, then charge your gambling on your on-board account. Any balance left at the end of the cruise will be refunded. Husband likes the casino. Thanks. I’d be surprised if it didn’t. Every ship I’ve been on has had an ATM. But whether it does or it doesn’t, one way to get around paying the ATM or cash advance fees is to pull your money from the slot machines. All you need to do is put your card in a slot, charge whatever you need to your room, cash out at the slot and take your key card to the cashier and cash it out. Of course you’ll need to be able to pay off your credit card before being charged any interest, unless you set up your account with your debit card and made sure you had sufficient funds in your account before you left home. Have fun! [emoji483] Sent from my iPad using Forums
TAD2005 Posted June 17, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2018 We were on the Rotterdam in March and there was an ATM at the exit doors of the casino. And the fee was substantial. Depending on your cruise ports, using ATM machines on land may be cheaper than the 3% or may not. What some folks do is use their room key card and load up a slot machine with $500 or whatever amount you want. That amount is charged to your cabin account, and whatever credit card you have on file. You do a few pulls on the one-armed-bandit, and cash out. Go to the casino cage and request a cash out of your casino account, which is different from your cabin account. You get cash with no fees. I wouldn't try this on the first few cruise days. Wait a bit. Eventually HAL will catch onto this and figure out a way to add the 3% to it. But the casino subcontractor will balk at that, because they want you to put cash into the casino system in the hopes that you will lose some of it. And you usually do, so that is in effect, the 3% or more that you would pay the front desk for a simple cash advance.
Stratheden Posted June 17, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2018 Why not get cash from an ATM on shore at the various ports that you stop at?
catl331 Posted June 18, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 18, 2018 Why not get cash from an ATM on shore at the various ports that you stop at?Depends where the cruise is. They may not be ports that have ATMs with $US that OP needs for ship gambling. "6 weeks" does not sound like an AK cruise. or C/T.
Stratheden Posted June 18, 2018 #7 Share Posted June 18, 2018 Well if it is for gambling, then prepay the money into your onboard account and use that.
