123linz123 Posted June 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2018 If I take an old card to use for room lights, does it need the magnetic strip on the back to work, or can I use a card without the magnetic strip? Thank you L
firemanbobswife Posted June 19, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2018 Anything will work, even cardboard.
robc1972 Posted June 19, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 19, 2018 Its just a switch. Use a fake card you get in junk mail all the time.
cb at sea Posted June 19, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 19, 2018 Fold a piece of paper and stick it in there. Anything will work, as long as it blocks the "beam" that controls the lights.
Towel Critter Posted June 19, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 19, 2018 I recommend an old Victoria's Secret charge card. A fellow poster/friend swears by them. :-)
Moonstruck705 Posted June 19, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 19, 2018 On Magic a few weeks ago, our room steward gave us a card with his info on it and we used that in the light switch. Just a paper business card. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

firemanbobswife Posted June 20, 2018 #13 Share Posted June 20, 2018 We leave the card in the whole cruise. Me too. I was referring to an old post on another thread where I told of the time when I used my old VS gift card for the safe and finally wore the strip out. Head of Housekeeping had to come and open my safe and I had to use another card the duration of the cruise. At least I got my use out of it all the way around [emoji846]. Anything roughly the size of your S&S card will work. We tear off a section of the Fun Times and use it (I've seen the cabin steward do this). Rare Saint Greg Posted June 20, 2018 #19 Share Posted June 20, 2018 I don’t understand... why do you need. Card for room light? The newer ships have a power saving system where your card keeps the lights on. The idea is when you leave the room, you take your card out and the lights go out. Obviously it doesn’t work because people leave cards in it all the time.
