Dalton51 Posted June 26, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2018 Does anyone know of a little local bar that's pretty cool to hangout at here? Looking for a co spot to hangout and have a couple beer/drinks. Thanks
alfaeric Posted June 26, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 26, 2018 There are a LOT of cool bars in Old San Juan. From ones you can sit out on a patio watching people drinking stuff, to a beer bar with multiple taps from all over the place, to bars that have 3-4 back rooms that you have to get through to find the one you like. We even found a cool "cave" like place where we sat in a dark, quiet, and cool bar sipping on great rum. Just walk in one. BTW, someone local will have to confirm it, but we found the highest concentration of bars were on Calle San Sebastian- and you just need to walk up Calle Cristo or Calle San Jose to find them. Rare crewsweeper Posted June 26, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 26, 2018 If you want a dive bar, El Batey next to the El Convento Hotel on Calle del Cristo would fit well. Another is El Farolito on Calle Sol. For a nicer place, Café Carli on Calle Tetuan has good jazz piano and excellent mojitos, but can be pricey. Rare crewsweeper Posted June 27, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 27, 2018 going to add: Since all the places above are inside, if you want a beach bar to hang out in, take a taxi to Condado. There's a great beach bar at the Atlantic Hotel on Calle Vendig. . There are probably others in the area as every hotel has one. But not as familiar with that part of San Juan as old San Juan. Stinger-pr Posted June 28, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 28, 2018 While to non-locals San Juan is about history, shopping and cruises, to a lot of locals it is about nightlife and weekend partying!! There are so many bars and hangout spots it's insane!! It is not by coincidence that the biggest festival of the year (Fiesta de la Calle San Sebastián) are centered on San Sebastian street and bear its name. Trust me, the only way you don't find a bar in Old San Juan is if you stay on the ship...lol!!
Clubber Posted July 12, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 12, 2018 For a dive bar with love the Douglas Pub or El Batey. For Margaritas we go to Greengos. For Mojitos we go to the rooftop bar at Hotel Milano. For Sangria we go to Hotel El Convento. For crazy nightlife we go to El Factoria. As above, you can barely stumble without failing into some sort of bar in Old San Juan. There are so many cool places. That's why we usually spend 2 nights there pre-cruise to have great food and nightlife.
