jlf1 Posted July 13, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2018 Do the gratuities get added to your shipboard account? Going on our first Avalon/river cruise in less than a month. Bit nervous, but very excited. Sent from my SM-T560NU using Tapatalk
Kenato Posted July 13, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 13, 2018 No, if I remember correctly, you put in a marked envelop and leave at the front desk. All anonymous.
Rare franski Posted July 14, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2018 You actually have a couple of options. You can prepay before you leave... and you will get a piece of paper that you can put in the envelope before you put it in the gratuity box. You can put cash in the envelope(s) --> the crew is separate from the cruise director. Or, you can put it on your credit card while on the boat. There is no set amount - as there is on a big ship. There are suggested amounts for the crew and the cruise director. But, you can pay whatever you wish. Enjoy your cruise.... it is a wonderful way to travel!! Empathy4You Posted July 14, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 14, 2018 We are also going on an Avalon cruise in less than a month. We prepaid our gratuities when we booked our trip.

Kenster Posted July 19, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 19, 2018 Thanks to everyone for your guidance. I hope that everyone pays the max, recommended amount. It is well deserved. On top of the max, we always give a little extra to those who have given exceptional service, such as a favorite waiter or the bar girls who kept our wine glasses full every night. And our cabin steward. They all work long hard hours with little free time for weeks at a time but provide amazing service that makes all the difference in the success of your cruise.
