On great tour that is missing from that list:

Tour the submarine and Destroyer escort from WWII. The sub sank one of the Japanese aircraft carriers that was used in the attack on Pearl harbor ...unbelievable the cramped quarters and working conditions, new respect for those that served in WWII.

I live about an hour and half north of the port and on two of three cruises out of Galveston our return was delayed substantially by fog. The first returned New Years eve and we did not dock until about 8PM. The second was in March and we did not dock until 2PM.

.

Much discussion has been had between RCL, Carnival and The state Pilots who control movement of ships during fog . . Not only do ships have first priority of movement but now criteria’s have been lessened for movement of ships in fog . Pilots it’s been said to have used fog against Cruise lines for political and economic posturing for pay rate raises and new engines for boats . Under extreme extenuating circumstances you could still have a delay . But should not be like before situations. Federal pilots are also vieing for positions on the port of Galveston.

Another activity by the pier is the Ocean Star Offshore drilling museum.

I second the Ocean Star! I went with my husband on a business trip and we found ourselves with a couple of hours to kill so we dropped in at the OS. It was fascinating and I learned so much!

we rented a car at HOU, drove and stayed in Webster. Toured the Johnson Space Center and spent another night in the hotel. Morning of cruise, we returned the car at HOU and took Galveston Express to port. Upon return, we took Galveston Express back to HOU

We rented a car from IAH and drove as far as the Johnson Space Center and took the Tour on Saturday. We were only 30 minutes from Galveston so drove in the morning of the cruise and left the rental at the EZ lot. You could also drive all the way to Galveston and get a hotel and then back up to the Space Center.

As far as the Space Center and Hotel we stayed across the Street at the courtyard by Marriott.
