How easy/accessible is it to snag a taxi from Southhampton? Would it be wise to book ahead?

There are plenty of taxis a short walk from the exit but a lot are self employed drivers and prone to overcharging you.

If you phone Radio Taxis while you are collecting your cases they will send a taxi quickly.

They text with the make and reg number of the car and where they are and they charge around one third less than the self employed drivers.

There was a healthy taxi stand without much of a wait when we disembarked on the later side of the disembarkation process. Unfortunately for us, we caught a grumpy driver who was hoping for a fare to Heathrow when we just wanted to get to the train station but we chalk this up to our bad luck.

I’d book a taxi if I were you as The taxis at Southampton port may charge you more than the taxi companies that you can book. Once you phone a taxi they are usually there within 10-15 mins and you can ask for a definite price. Enjoy your cruise.

We used Smiths for Airports in the opposite direction. Excellent. E mail them and they will give you a quote. Well worth the extra cost.

This past May we used Express Airport Transport. The driver arrived at the Southampton terminal on time, the car was clean, the driver polite and attentive and we had an easy drive to Heathrow. The cost was £90 and I’d book them again.

some suggestions may be good if going to London airports but the OP is going to SOU 30 mins from the port
