haolenate Posted July 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 28, 2018 Greetings from an unusually warm and dry Juneau! These snuck out a few nights ago... this is from Skaters Cabin at the Mendenhall campground. Keep an eye on this website if you are cruising in Southeast: http://auroraforecast.gi.alaska.edu/

bottom-dragger Posted July 28, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 28, 2018 fake news. how many times have you been told that it is impossible to see northern lights during the summer......
Afterward Posted July 28, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 28, 2018 Breathtaking! I can hardly wait for our cruise in September. Hoping we can catch a glimpse of the Aurora the night after we leave Juneau on our way to Glacier Bay. Thanks for the post.

masterdrago Posted July 30, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 30, 2018 Pretty amazing. I would be interested in what time local the pix were taken. we will be in Fairbanks next May and I'm always monitoring the activity reports. Thanks so much for posting.
Budget Queen Posted July 30, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 30, 2018 Pretty amazing. I would be interested in what time local the pix were taken. we will be in Fairbanks next May and I'm always monitoring the activity reports. Thanks so much for posting. It could be dusk or dawn. I have several photos I've take of a sunset with the aurora out of Fairbanks. In May in Fairbanks, chances are about zero of seeing aurora.
hockeyfan30 Posted August 1, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 1, 2018 Amazing! You have given me hope that there may be a chance to see this on my trip this August. thank you
masterdrago Posted August 1, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 1, 2018 It could be dusk or dawn. I have several photos I've take of a sunset with the aurora out of Fairbanks. In May in Fairbanks, chances are about zero of seeing aurora. How true but sad because when we will be there, daylight is 19h10m and civil twilight is 4h50m. There is simply no nautical or astronomical twilight. https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/usa/fairbanks
masterdrago Posted August 1, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 1, 2018 If the OP took the shot near July 25th, it had to be during Nautical twilight - 10:29pm-3:36am. But he does not say what time in his post.
haolenate Posted August 1, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted August 1, 2018 a friend took the picture. we started seeing the haze around 945pm, so this may have been closer to 1030ish. Aurora are hard to predict. They may suddenly appear and give us an amazing 10 minute show, then vanish. Or we will be waiting until 2am to see them.
