Entertainment reveal???

Well if we don't like it we can always head to the Club for a traditional evening of wild discovery.

"Once the kids are in bed, The Club transforms into a place of wild discovery. The nightlife here is full of engaging moments you’ll be talking about for days after—or maybe you’d prefer to keep them to yourself. One thing is for sure though, a night in The Club will have you ready to come back for more."

I am really intrigued by this - I really will have to see what is going on there. :D

I know right!!

I'm with you on the music. We enjoy guitarists at the Sunset bar or strings in al Bacio in the afternoon, the guitarists, jazz, strings and duos in Ensemble Lounge or RendezVous in the evening and house bands in the Sky Lounge or the Atrium later at night.

I'm sure we won't be there at night for the wild discovery in the Club, except to check it out to see what it is about. I am intrigued, love to people watch and I have to do the research for my CC review. :D

Looking forward to reading your review. I've got a back-to-back booked in April 2019 and all this talk about Andromeda and wild discovery at the Club has got me intrigued as well.

We have a local resort with the big chess set, but they have many acres of land. You are right that those things take up space. I guess it is more like an interesting art piece to spice things up (kind of like the Hippie Van). ;)

I thought it was neat to offer putting and archery, though I don't know how they will fit it all in. More fun things to observe while walking through or maybe I will stop and try it. :D

Archery and and putting could be challenging at sea.. my husband will try a few shots on the lawn but always passes on the putting competitions...But for fun and games, why not! I do not think there is a lawn on the EDGE...and wonder if the S class lawn and putting areas will survive the "Revolution...remodel"

No mention yet about the glass blowing activity or if the art lessons will ever be back?

I gotta say, how long do you think they will have lizard man in Eden or acrobats hanging over dancers in the Club. I know it looks cool and all.... but I don't know about you.... but having a lizard man mime hanging by my table while I am trying to enjoy my cocktail... just seems a bit odd to me. I can see doing this once... but it seems this will not age well. But I have to say... I am really glad to be able to see this for myself on one of the early cruises. I probably have been hanging around my DH too long and am a bit cynical in my old age. But again they are trying to be disruptive and sometime you win and sometimes... well not so much. The large screens will be great for games etc. But I am old school and love to listen to live talented musicians and vocalists.... loved the Ensemble lounge and performances in the atrium... I hope there will be this type of entertainment as well.

Really not sure what to think of the entertainment reveal. Part of me is glad it happened after we got our airline tickets and travel insurance, and I couldn’t cancel our cruise. Some of the stuff seems ok but the nighttime stuff in the club isn’t for me. Not all that old, mid 40s, just not an outgoing personality. Will say I am intrigued by the theatre, time will tell. My wife’s reaction was more favorable, but agreed the nighttime stuff in the club wasn’t for us.

For our first Celebrity cruise we probably should have done a different ship, seems the edge is a lot different than there other ships. This will be an adventure, if anything we can swim at night when everyone else is at the other venues:)

I had to laugh when I read what you said about Lizard Man - I feel the same way. I would have to have a lot of cocktails to enjoy that kind of interaction with performers. ;)

I have been picturing starting a thread in December called "Over the Edge Selfies" or something similar, where people post favorite selfies from the Edge. I would have a selfie with the hippie van, hcat would have one of the sunset while eating dinner at the Rooftop Garden Grill and you could have one with Lizard Man. :D

Seriously, I think they will have some of the traditional music, but maybe less than S and M Class ships. We will pick and choose, mostly avoiding the interactive performances. If the eclectic music/performers are not well-received by most, they will ditch Lizard Man and the rest.

That Lizard Man sure is creepy! Might have to rethink Eden but will wait for reviews and actual pics.

My first reaction was to be overwhelmed by the high tech, eclectic nature of the entertainment overall, but after thinking about all of the things the ship offers, I think we will have a great time. We don't go to the production shows now and don't usually attend the special late night parties they have tried. I am hopeful that we will be able to experience the things we enjoy traditionally and will have a sense of adventure for the rest of it and try some of those "out there" things. Sometimes it is those unbelievable experiences that we remember the most and talk about forever. :D

Given that this is in Eden, and the performer is holding an apple, I'm pretty sure he's meant to be a snake, not a lizard, ie the snake tempting Eve in the garden of Eden. That probably doesn't make the prospect of interaction with him any more...tempting

I’m sorry, there is NOTHING appealing about the renderings with snake/lizard man or the acrobatics. There’s a fine line - or maybe no line at all where reptile costumes are involved - between interactive and annoying.

What are the folks at Celebrity thinking? The entertainment at NCL is fabulous and we don’t even like cruise ship entertainment! I’m pretty sure the millenials I know would fall down laughing at snake/lizard man. Or maybe that’s the point.

I wonder if there will be a guest entertainer or different show every night. We did not find this to be the case on the Anthem. It looks like the Edge is copying some of the things from that class of ships from Royal.

I wholeheartedly agree, while now I talk about the overall X experience with friends whom I have tried to join us in the past, yet once many of them saw what The Edge may offer in all aspects of a sailing experience, our group filled in less than five (5) days....

We all want to have that new experience, I Am sure it has happened previously, yet not sure if it is to this level... anyone else recollect any such? For us, this goes beyond 'new ship' syndrome... LOL

bon voyage

We hope the snake man and pseudo X rated sexy stuff will eventually fade...just like several past attempts to have creepy characters interact with pax.. They may work hard to attract a following of pax that goes in for that stuff and that will keep it going.

Of course, I could never guess how popular Le Petit Chef has been with many but not all! We will definitely pass on that.

We think there will be more enough to keep us happy, even if we skip the wierd stuff and shows with loud music and flashing lights!

If I should ever find anything X rated on an American upscale cruise ship, I won´t believe it, that´s for sure.

Any time here in Europe but never in the US

Oh well, now I remember that one time when I attended a late night adult comedy show by Michele Balan on Equinox which made 25 % of the audience leave the venue :') . That was fun.

But something visual - I don´t think so :o

This FAQs document has more details about the Edge entertainment, such as (bolding is mine - some of the more interesting things, IMO):

In addition to the 3 production shows, there will be 2 full production shows with the Headline Residency program: Get Up (pop concert) and The Purpose (uplifting show).

Daytime in the Theatre:

On Celebrity Edge, the brand will continue its thriving partnership with world explorer, scientist and educator Huw James to introduce a cutting-edge enrichment experience known as Explorer’s On The Edge.

The Talkback is a roundtable discussion with the onboard cast focusing on their journey to the stage and offering guests a unique and insightful look into the creative and show production process.

An industry first, Opus: Celebrity Masterclass is a three-part master class workshop series cap-stoning in a showcase of the creative process.

The Club:

Day Activities:

Soundbooth Revolution offers guests a unique mixing workshop from Celebrity’s resident DJs, followed by a performance opportunity from the best participants.

The Club features Celebrity’s first ever laser maze with the Funovation Laser Maze, where guests work their way through a changing maze of laser beams without getting zapped.

Experience creator Wildly Different premieres Free Spirits, a table maze tailor-made for the revolutionary Celebrity Edge.

Paper and Pencil trivia options are nowhere in sight on Celebrity Edge with the introduction of the brand’s custom Mobile Trivia app.

Celebrity Continues its partnership with Global Archery to create a fully customized archery experience that makes archery fun and accessible for the entire family.

Evening:

In the evening, The Club transforms into a place where talk shows, game shows, live music performances and DJs reign supreme.

DAY-TIME AT EDEN

Inspired by the Golden Radio, Fibonacci at Eden is an immersive and educational series hosted in Eden highlighting architecture, mathematics and lifestyle.

Partnering with a world-renowned meditation teacher and writer, Meditation at Eden will be a customized mental wellness experience unique to Celebrity.

Artisanal, enticing and perplexing, daily wooden puzzle challenges in Eden allow guests to have a truly sustainable game experience.

Inspired by cocktails, The Art Hour brings guests’ artistic talents to life with water coloring, origami, sketching, painting and knitting.

Rooftop Garden

Enjoy the not-to-be-missed evening entertainment where food and film merge during “A Taste of Film,” and pop-up live music performances from the unexpected treetop sculptures as part of the Rooftop Concert Series, with shows like the Rooftop Unplugged, Modern Fusion, and Rock.

Another new entertainment feature being unveiled on Celebrity Edge is the Garden Cinema Series, an extraordinary under-the-stars moviegoing experience with live musical performances during intermissions.

We were comped for one of X's adult parties on the Reflection. It is not anything we would do again, but I have to say it was entertaining to watch people's reactions as they walked in. We had free special drinks and desserts included in this burlesque-type event, where performers on the ship dressed up as characters and stayed in character for the night. It was a bit bizarre, but something we still giggle about and love telling the stories to other cruisers. My favorite part of the night was about an older couple who appeared rather conservative. When they walked in their jaws dropped and their eyes almost popped out of their heads - they looked pretty shocked. By the time we left (likely they had had some of the special cocktails by then) they were giggling, dancing and acting like teenagers (and the husband had a dessert in each hand). It was sweet to see. Obviously, this type of thing isn't for everybody, but sometimes we are surprised by how much fun it can be to go outside our comfort zones. :D Hopefully on the Edge there will be a balance of these edgy events and more traditional entertainment. This kind of thing may be fun occasionally, but would get old fast - listening to good live music never gets old, IMO.

I am assuming that it would be similar to this at the Club after the kids are in bed. Not pornographic, but a bit over the edge.

Here is something from the FAQs, which lead me to believe that there will be a different show every night (on current X ships there are 2 shows/night, usually same show at 7:00 and 9:00).

It looks to me like there will be the 3 production shows (A Hot Summer Night's Dream, Jewelry Box, Kaleidoscope) and 2 full production Headliner Residency shows (mentioned Get Up and The Purpose) and 1 guest entertainer for a 7-night cruise.

From the FAQs:

12. Will Edge have Headliner shows?

Yes, we will have 2 Headliner residency shows each voyage, plus one additional Guest Entertainer on each voyage.

15. Will all 3 production shows be shown on each 7-night sailing?

Yes, every sailing all cast theater shows will be shown.

Not impressed overall but we will find things we like...We keep ourselves fairly busy snd do not need alot of busy time

..nothing beats the sky and sea, our balcony , the solarium , thermal suite and the spa, plus excellent dining, a nice evening cocktail and mellow music...maybe one night dancing to the DJ if not X rated

The last 2 pics of your post to me show a presentation that is vulgar .We don't enjoy stuff like this at home and would not enjoy it on a cruise.. seems to objectify woman...a girlie show

All just my opinion others might love it!

Yes, they are all "crowded" but having experienced small crowds on the S class ships I can tell you that when it is a popular show getting into the theater is next to impossible with a scooter/chair, etc. And, to be honest, the handicapped areas are not very inviting. We have avoided shows these past years due to the fact that sitting at the top level is noisy and you could hardly see the stage. That being said, we are sailing Edge in January and will see what happens. Looking forward to LLP's so-called "innovations". AND, after Edge we cross the dock to Silhouette so we can really compare in real time.

We really enjoyed Silhouette a couple of years ago. It has about the same number of passengers as Edge. Perhaps on Edge there will be an area on the main level of the theater that will be a better option for a scooter/chair.

I agree that those things were startling on a Modern Luxury ship (though many years ago I remember seeing a Las Vegas type minimal clothing production on a cruise ship). I certainly wouldn't have gone if we hadn't received free admission, but we figured we would give it a try - it did have some interesting moments (enjoyed talking with the performers about their lives on the ship after we convinced them to go out of character). This, and other trials of this adult type of event, seem to have failed on X. Let's hope that X's risque events at the Club are more tasteful.

I was just about to unpack a bit of my social justice warriors ammo, but then I saw the photos and agree... That does not even try to look high class. I do not think "girlie shows" are anti feminist in any case, but when it´s not classy and when it looks cheap, I would not wanna see it by any means.

"Exotic dancers" need to be absolutely high class and professionals with superb training to be called so - otherwise I´d call them "Erotic romancers" or something...

If Eden has Snake man (okay I was a bit off the mark with "lizard man")... do you suppose they will have Adam and Eve as well?

Personally we really are not too impressed with this concept at all -- the whole Eden, Adam and Eve and snake stuff just doesn't sit well with us. Really do not get it at all and find it offensive. I can't see us spending much, if any, time in there.
