Money Questions - US Dollar Exchange

Recent tips for using cash to make purchases - food, dining, souvenirs? Any recent experiences? I assume the same applies to St. Kitts. I read older posts that said...

• US dollars accepted but expect change in local currency - eastern Caribbean dollar.
  
• Current exchange rate is about 1 US to 2.7 ECD but, on the street, it's usually simplified to 1 to 2.5.
  
• Bring new US dollars, old bills not always accepted. Go to bank before leaving home to get new bills.
  
• Bring small bills $1, $5, $10, $20. Larger bills might not be accepted. Easier to give exact amount.
  
• Any places where must use the eastern Caribbean dollar?
  

I don't mind some change back in local currency. Makes a nice souvenir and something to bring back home for kids.

All of the above is still true.

 

Many many places accept credit cards also..
