Suite guests and platinum elite lounge

We haven't gone to the lounge on our last 5 cruises. Since we've had Sip and Sail on all of them we prefer the Outrigger Bar area on the Royal Class ships. If we're hungry it is just a few feet to the buffet to make a plate of hors d'oeurves. On ships with an Adagio Bar we'll go there for the peace and quiet and the usually lovely views out the window. The munchies aren't that great (olives, snack mix) but the drinks are much better than the new ones in the lounge. And Vines is always a good choice since we like wine.

We love Adagio!  One of our favorite places to just relax, sit and read, play cards, etc.

If you are elite in a suite you do get two setups. If the second one is not there, just call room service and they will bring it.

Correct that you have to call for the second mini-bar set up. No longer will both setups be in your suite initially.

Thanks, I had been told before that was not the case...

Maybe they just were saying two elite(s) in the same cabin won’t get two set ups? Or is that incorrect as well?

Each elite does not get a set up. But in a suite you will get your suite set up and one elite set up.

For this event of you hoping for a Celebrity style replacement program, be careful what you wish. I predict there would be a very negative reaction from the Princess loyalists.

Celebrity’s Lounge is for Elite and above only (it would not include Platium level). Free cocktails from 5-7 PM on all but two nights of the cruise. You will be giving up your free mini bar set up. If it was not for the drink packages included on most Celebrity bookings, the area would be overwhelmed every night with all the Elites and above.

Personally I think the mini bar set up (or coffee exchange) is a nice benefit.

I agree we don't want to lose our mini bar set up either!!

It's not exactly something that's exciting... A reduced price drink (from a small selection of drinks) and a bit of nosh. If you have the beverage package it is then an drink you like (duh) but it's still not anything all that special.

We have a suite booked in January on the Island, but won't have a beverage package. If I might ask, how much is a glass of wine at the Elite Lounge during happy hour? Don't really drink that much, but it would be nice to have a glass of wine before going into dinner.

$ 10 (ish, total price with gratuity)

Wine will be at the regular price available throughout the ship.

On my December Royal Princess sailing, I was a Platinum guest and never was able to use the Platinum Elite Lounge.  I'd go to where the Lounge was supposed to be, a sign said something like reserved for a Private Party and the door was closed.  I didn't think that the "Private Party" was available for me.

On my recently completed Coral Princess, I became an Elite Guest and did use the Lounge a majority of time.  It was held in the Library with an appropriate sign that said for what the venue was being used.  A very quiet spot (only 31 Elites aboard my sailing) with the specialty of the day hors d'oeuvres, an assortment of cheeses (which changed each day) and crackers, bread sticks, and fresh veggies with one, maybe two, dips.  One Lounge Stewardess (usually) was present to obtain whatever one wanted to drink from Crooner's on the deck below.  I didn't care for the "special price drink menu" and always ordered what I enjoy drinking.  I will admit I liked this "perk" offered by Princess.  Having more people around and conversing with them would have added to my enjoyment.  (Although I did enjoy my conversations with the two crew members who served me.)

That private party was, most likely, was what you were looking for being held in Club 6.  The sign is up to dissuade other passengers from using it as a thru way to the lower level of the theater or Churchills.   Instead passengers are directed through the Casino.  It also keeps folks from just wandering in, especially if they have no one staffing the entrance to check cruise cards.  Now if wasn't in Club 6, I have no idea...

Suite dwellers are invited to these "exclusive" nightly gatherings.  It's just another vehicle Princess uses to sell drinks, don't think it is anything special.

We've enjoyed meeting other cruisers each evening and it's just a nice stop before dinner for us.

Especially if you are on a ship where it is held in Skywalkers!  Since the lounge often takes place during sail away the views can be wonderful.

I do enjoy sky walker. - sad they don't have that on some of the newer ships.

I absolutely agree.  We never bother to go to Club 6 on the Royal class ships.

I agree. Club 6 seems to be an after thought.

"Hey we have this last space onboard to fill that needs something" "hey! I know lets stick a bar/lounge there".   🙄

Not a good location at all imo.

I do disagree.  Do they sell more drinks? Of course.  But, the opportunity to connect with, converse, and share information with other experienced cruisers is an opportunity that I value.

I enjoy, honestly, sharing my cruise experiences with those who lack the experiences that I have thankfully had.

The opportunity to share my travel stories with others, regardless of cruise line, etc. and learn their stories adds to the enjoyment of my cruise.

The Elite Lounge provides such an opportunity.  I wish HAL also provided such an amenity.  Yes, there is the Mariner Society Recognition Brunch, etc.  But, it's rushed with little/to no time to really meet other Mariners.

On The Island, what area( lounge) is typically used for PES in the evening?

As I recall it's in a back corner of Explorer's Lounge. Not a great location.

Can you trade the second set up for coffee cards?

we use to do the elite/platinum lounge nightly. Finally woke up to the fact that we munched on too many appetizers with drinks just prior to going to dinner. So we weren't hungry.

Now we go around 4 PM to the Vines for some wine and a small plate of tapas and we are off around 6 or 6:30 ready for a nice dinner.

Just a thought if you end up in similar situation or unimpressed with the platinum/elite lounge thing.

Do you have to pay for the tapas?

No and most Vines have a choice between tapas and sushi.  I've never seen them offered before 5 pm but that may be ship dependent.
