Cooking Classes and Artist Loft on Riviera

This will be our first Oceania Cruise on the Riviera. Can someone tell me if there is a surcharge for either of these activities and is it basically just walk in or do you have to reserve. Thanks.

Cooking classes have a price and, usually, most are filled months in advance (reserve/pay online).

Cooking classes need to be booked ahead & have a fee

If you really want to do the class then book before the cruise but sometimes you can still get into a class once onboard

We went on boarding day to Destinations Services desk filled out the form

 

They called later to say the class we wanted was available & sent the tickets to the cabin

They are for fun & if you learn something along the way great

do not expect Cordon Bleu level classes

I signed up and paid for two cooking classes on the Riviera ahead of time via their website. Once onboard, one was canceled and I got a refund. The one I attended was good but not great. Might have just been the particular class. As for the Artists Loft, I don’t think there is an additional charge for that, but I don’t know as it can’t be booked in advance and in our circumstance, the first Europe cruise after a transatlantic cruise, it was all booked up on embarkation day before I could sign up. Those from the TA segment had filled it bThat was a little disappointing - the only item I mentioned as a negative on our cruise survey.

No surcharge for the artist's loft activities...first come first served was the mode of operation during our cruises. Not sure if the artist would turn people away if the class is "full" or not though as that situation did not arise in our case.

The cooking classes are fun, I believe they're $69 each. They do fill up quickly. If you book online before the cruise so that you get a spot, you have to pay in advance. If you wait until you board, you can use onboard credit but you may not get the class you want.

The Artist Loft is free. Every one I've done has been great. People will line up outside the studio at least 15 minutes ahead so they would get a spot.

It was not my experience that people would sign up for the Artist Loft at the beginning and that spot was reserved for them for the rest of the cruise. It was first come, first served each day.

As to the Artist Loft, I haven't done it myself but from what I have read here I believe Momnipotent is correct. There is no charge but space is limited and people line up in advance. The "guest artists" change from cruise to cruise so one time you might have a water colorist, another time you could have another specialist.

 

 

There is a knitting fan who has often posted here (although I haven't seen anything from her recently) who will always seek out other knitters and crocheters to join her ... not necessarily in the Artist Loft.

 

 

 

It couldn't hurt (depending on your interest) to post an inquiry at your roll call to see if there are others interested in what YOU are interested in! Also check with Oceania to see who is scheduled (as an "artist") to be on board for your cruise.

My wife attended a Culinary Class on Riviera last week, which I had booked about 8 weeks before we sailed, as a present for her. Think it was a Cooking with Jacques one, what she cooked in the class was much more than the class description on the website seemed to indicate. It was a full 2 hour class they prepare a complete meal, which I got invited in to taste and she enjoyed the class thoroughly.

 

We ended up with an unexpected sea day on the cruise, and they put on an additional class, Knife Skills, but had a poor take up on it as there wasn't much pre-publicity for it. The classes are £52 ($69).

Also keep an eye on Currents for extras. On my last cruise (Marina), they did a sea day presentation with two of the chefs down in the lounge. No extra cost, plenty of space and really good: informative and funny. They were a great double act. I enjoyed it very much.

That is more of a demonstration than an actual hands on class which I believe that is what the OP was asking about

 

 

They have the Chefs demo on longer cruises they do have the act down pretty good :halo:
