hotpinkchica14 Posted September 5, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2018 I will be flying to Newark with a 5 year old and I'm unsure of the laws pertaining to car seats in a taxi or Uber. Will I need to bring a car seat for my 5 year old? Can she ride in a taxi without one? Can she ride in an Uber without one? Thanks for any help! 138east Posted September 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2018 NJ requires car seats. State of New Jersey. Any child under the age of 8 years old and a height of 57 inches shall be secured as follows in the rear seat of a motor vehicle: a. A child under the ageof 2 years and 30 pounds shall be secured in a rear-facing seat equipped with a 5-point harness. NYC livery cars do not require car seats. There are no Taxi and Limousine Commission rules regarding this, as it is a State exemption. Passengers with children are encouraged to bring their own car seats, which the drivers must allow passengers to install. *NOTE – Children under the age of seven are permitted to sit on an adult's lap.”Jun 5, 2018 So if you take public transit like NJ Transit train or Airport bus to Manhattan, you do not need a car seat. You can also book a car service and pay for a car seat.
njhorseman Posted September 5, 2018 #3 Share Posted September 5, 2018 Carol has already advised you about the applicable laws. You don't want to take a taxi from EWR to Manhattan. The taxi having to cross state lines and being unable to pick up a return fare back to NJ means you'll likely have to pay a higher fare than you would using a car service. If you want a private vehicle as opposed to mass transit via bus or train I recommend that you book a car service such as Carmel Limo www.carmellimo.com or Dial 7 www.dial7.com . You should be able to order a car seat when you make your reservation.
BigMike2018 Posted September 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 5, 2018 Another option is to take the EWR Air Train to the Newark Airport station and then take the NJ Transit train straight into Penn Station in New York...from there it's a short cab ride to the cruise terminal. https://www.njtransit.com/rg/rg_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=AirportConnectionsTo
