I just disembarked from the Riviera this morning and wanted to clarify some things. I actually never got seasick thankfully but I took

Bonine every day. Originally I was just going to take it the first day to see how I did but once the captain announced rough seas were expected the first night I decided to take it every day. Since I’m not an experienced cruiser I wasn’t sure what to expect. Based on this experience, I would say that the amount of motion we had was somewhat worse than usual. The sea day was quite rocking for me to say the least! I don’t think most people were affected by it either though  as the bars, casino and trivia contests seemed quite well attended. I’m guessing that we had somewhat rough seas about 50% of the time. One day we had to stay in port longer than expected due to hurricane force winds (according to the captain). Another day I noticed seasick bags were placed near the elevators. The rough sea days were described by the captain as gale force winds, so again, I don’t think this was usual but it probably wasn’t totally out of the norm. We had a few days of calm seas and those were heavenly! We also had beautiful weather in almost every port. Even the cloudy day we had in Kotor had some sun and was probably upper 60s for a high temp.

I don’t feel like at any time there were unsafe conditions. In fact, I felt like Oceania went out of their way to make sure we knew what was going on and they tried to make it as comfortable as possible for everyone. I just want to make sure that was clear.

I also want to add that the service in Oceania was absolutely outstanding! The staff on board really went out of their way to make sure everyone felt welcome and had anything they needed. It far exceeded my expectations!

I would go in the fall again, but I would probably go earlier in October than we did this time.   As MissEileen23 said, we had to dodge some major storms and the seas were kicking up.  Venice experienced some serious flooding a couple of days before we arrived.  It had receded by the time we arrived, although, St Mark's Square did flood at high tide later that afternoon.

We're on the Riveria Nov 1 Venice to Barcelona.  As mentioned, Venice flooded before the cruise which impacted passengers arriving on Monday, but we arrived Tuesday & other than having to deal with occasional rain we had a marvelous time in Venice.  We had some rain for the ship's day in Venice, but no problem with the umbrellas & no wading through high water.  Since then the skies have been clear.  Dubrovnik & Kotor were wonderful & seas today to Malta are calm.  Let's hope the weather holds (but I'm probably jinxing things by writing this!!)

I hope your weather holds!  When we disembarked on Thursday at 4 AM, it was drizzling. By the time we boarded our 7:20 flight it was pouring rain. I felt bad for those embarking that day, but I’m glad it has cleared up for y’all !! Happy Sailing!

We were on the Riviera October 4 - 14 this year from Barcelona to Athens.  Early October was delightful.  We had some rain early on, days 3 & 4, otherwise smooth seas and clear sky.  No ports missed and no problems with tendering.  Perhaps a few weeks earlier or just good luck made the difference.

The best of all worlds is to go in mid to late September, very early October when you miss the worst of the heat and crowds, and also have a good chance of avoiding the bad weather of later autumn. 2nd choice is late April and all of May which brings the spring greenery and wildflowers. I really need to book a cruise now that I think about it.......

100% correct.

You can use this site for historical weather:

https://www.wunderground.com/      Under the More tab, on the dropdown: Historical Weather

I think it all depends on itinerary.   As I mentioned earlier, we cruised the western Med in late November to beginning of December and had great weather.  I've spent a week in Malta in late November and had fantastic weather - tee shirts and light jackets.  But, things can change from year.  Sort of like financial advice -  past performance is no indication of future success.

It is also true that some ports are basically shut down after the prime tourist season - places like Sorrento and towns on the Amalfi coast and Italian Riviera (Portofino, etc) have many businesses shuttered for the season.

Doing it as we speak on Riviera. Why wouldn't you ?? Weather fine. A couple of grey days but otherwise perfect. So much better in port when you are either the only ship. Can actually enjoy the sights with the hoards of people during peak season!!

just back from 2 weeks in the med on Marina.  This year weather conditions were not the best. in previous years, sailing the Med in October and November were very pleasant. The weather patterns around the globe have been shifting. There was a storm that affected the med. it caused extreme weather.....very windy, high rough seas, and lots of rain.  We had only a few sunny days. We had 3 scheduled stop changes due to the stormy weather. We did not stop in Zadar, Portofino, or Bandol.  Substituted were Livorno, Dibrovnik, and Corsica. Loved Corsica. It was beautiful. It was also one of our few sunny days. We also had a trip to Capri canceled by Oceania. Many excursions were canceled for several reasons. There was some chaos dealing with destination services.  Oceania does not provide much info on ports. At least we could use wifi to get info on the new ports. In some ports, local tourist info was helpful.  I would probably go again in the fall. I would pay more attention to getting info ahead of sailing.
