Mariner of the Seas quick review September 2018

Was there a TOP TIER on either 3 day or 4 day cruises? We are on both starting 10/12! Thanks. I could not figure out how to name this post TOP TIER or find this answer but I did look! :):)

None of us got any invite for the top tier at first I though that they didn’t want to invite gold or platinum ( my friends and family are ) but since I’m Diamond and didn’t get it either I believe they ship is not doing it at all.

Gold would never be invited to top tier as its Emerald, Platinum, Diamond, D + and PInnacle invitees on other ships. They usually make a joke like "how many gold members do we have" and then "if you said yes you shouldn't be here" (ha ha ha). Well, it will be interesting to see what happens this week! I'll post my results from 10/12 and 10/15 3, 4 day Mariner!

Review after 3n 10-12 on day 2 of 4n 10-15 sailing:

1 . they got all elevators working a day ago They still seem slow to get to you of course

2 . No hand sanitizers in wj. Relying on bank of hand washing stations

3 9 pc orchestra with subset playing every afternoon and day 1 so far on promenade

4. NO TOP TIER ON 3 n or 4 n cruises  on MarinerDouble checked with Glaucio Carriero from Brazil a fantastic friendly new loyalty amb. Deck 2 by conference center . (Where inside movie theater used to be  )the person who posted about an unresponsive loy. Amb. Must have had one  of the several who are frosty  - I've had them too.

5 . No doubt about it Hugo Arenas from Cancun newly minted CD is over the top enthusiastic  . He was on Anthem earlier this year was AM  . He is great for what appears to  be over 50% Spanish speaking guests  . His Spanish is amazingly fast , putting New Yorkers to shame.   Assata Young-Meyers is AM from Trinidad & Tobago used to be on enchantment . She monitors the new Lazer tag most of her shift  .

6 no captain speech or toast or champagne on “dress your best used to be formal night “ But the crowd likes their oicturrs and the 2 weddings on the day 3 gave you many glam  cruisers to look at

7  wilfredo is suite and pinnacle lounge concierge and Ms.Grecia Guillen from Peru is Diamond lounge concierge  thought she was good and makes the rounds  no D or D + can go into Suite lounge which is a combined large room from 7 of hearts and the other room by elevators on deck 14.

8. You can go in and out to balcony tables from suite lounge as door to the stairs leading up to the outside is bolted shut.

On D lounge you cannot go in once you go out andvit needs to be that way as station for rock climbing wall and spectator seats are outside  if you catch the concierge’s eye she will let  you in  .

9. They do need to fix the pizza line after wj closes but before dinner bu I bet they do not  .

10. The  Starbucks installed wherevthe dead zone of lots of seats across the stair area from Boleros on deck 4 is. Brilliant! Now espresso ( spelled incorrectly as expresso on sign by cafe promenade!) can be had at deck 4,5 and the bar as you enter the WJ  . Really shirtens the lines  . For those who care, it is Seattles Best Coffee in WJ and Cafe promenade.

11  Gallery of Dreams production show seems clearly choreographed by those who did City of Dreams on Jewel. Only the Gallery one has better composed scenes and music. Twists of humor throughout and costumes like Brilliance Now  and Forever show and “vogue” dance on centrum formal night.

12 4 night has a centerstage ( Brilliance) but we have not seen it yet  they do part of it on night 1 which is welcome aboard at 10:15 ( you can watch this on day 2 afternoon in the room so don’t feel you have to stay up )

13  WJ food  Here in CC  some has been written unfavorably but we found it a lot better than Empress Majesty Vision and Rhapsody” . The desserts are what you will find on most ships  . They advertse a dinner Theme Llke “Mexican”

14  as you enter wj Chops is a separate room on the right and Jamies Italian replaced Giovannis at room on the left  . Izumis seems to have  a Benihana experience now  .

15  king size  4 poster “beds “ are in solarium and on the  3 night I saw guests slept all night in them each night  - one even brought their white room comforter down .

Thats all for now  we liked our back to back and  will go again  . You do mot meet tge officers or cd staff but the public areas are nice

ps our jr suite was as usual better bed tgan brilliance,  not redone , but not a mess

Pps you check on like on yhe anthem and your jeys are putside your xanin at 1 pm not given on the terminal

ppps the folks complaining about smoke in casino are right one of the worst  ventilation systems in the fleet

I figured they would get those port aft elevators working

after we left, LOL....

I was on Mariner 6 weeks....last 2 weeks only 2 elevators

went to 14. Agree...always full since folks would get on

and ride...eventually getting to correct deck.

Mariner does not have C&A events or formal nights.

The DL is overcrowded first and last nights .....

some folks arrive 1/2 hour early and grab their seats....

some walking up stairs to 14....ha.

Kicker is the Suite Lounge was mostly empty...larger

and way less folks....they should switch.

Lots for kids to do ... good because lots of kids on

Mariner....even in Sept and Oct.

Agree, some production shows were late hours.

Ice show good, cast changing over soon.

Crew was great but decided we prefer longer cruises

and won’t be back on the 4 or 3 day cruises out of POM.

Have fun.

...not sure why new site is double spacing lines...

Strange about the cafe promenade line ups. We were on Mariner in August and never saw such lines.

We were also on in August and this also was not a problem but like someone else said it could be the time of day. With that being said the elevator situation definitely was my worse experience, cannot believe that has still not been fixed.

Sirlancelot-Any chance you can find out who next CD will be?

I'll be on Mariner December 24th.

I think is going to be Ricky Mathews, he was supposed to be the CD for now but they made a last minute change. In my opinion Ricky is better than Hugo

Agree with the elevators.  Multiple times we'd watch an empty elevator pass us without stopping (after waiting a few minutes).  Very frustrating. DH and I were good to walk but our kids would moan to take the elevator.

Just in 10-18 pm from talking to Hugo Arenas - he hopes to get off mariner on 2 mo Vacation dec 5 ish replaced by Ricky Matthews from Voyager for that time.

Also nice quiet spot is behind starbucks  on deck 4 ( boleros area) facing outer promenade deck. Has elec outlets , seats and benches. Very secluded.
