Are the trams in Lisbon wheelchair friendly? TIA

I will stick my neck out and say no! I cannot imagine how you would get a wheelchair onto a tram and do not recall any kind of lift (but I was not looking). I am thinking primarily of the popular #28 Tram which always seems to use the older trams. On most of the stops one had to climb up a few steps to just get into the tram. We have read that the newer trams do have a space for wheelchairs but have never been on those newer trams and not sure if they are being used on routes frequented by tourists.

You should cross post this question on the Disabled Cruiser blog here on CC.
