Trimone Posted October 17, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 17, 2018 Now cannabis is legal in Canada, can you smoke it on NCL, or any other cruise ships within Canada? Purely for medicinal value
Two Wheels Only Posted October 17, 2018 #2 Share Posted October 17, 2018 According to the FAQ... "Marijuana prescribed for medical purposes" is prohibited. Even if in a smoking area, marijuana smoking wouldn't be allowed AFAIK.
CruiseAF Posted October 17, 2018 #3 Share Posted October 17, 2018 Honestly, on Ncl, Rci and Carnival I smell canibis during some point of the cruise. This has happened on most of cruises on those lines. When I was younger my cousins GF smuggled some one with no problem.
snownow Posted October 17, 2018 #4 Share Posted October 17, 2018 That would be a nope. Have at it off ship in port though.

ano Posted October 17, 2018 #6 Share Posted October 17, 2018 On a recent New England NCL cruise, it was definitely being used. We could smell it on our balcony.
Rare Laszlo Posted October 17, 2018 #7 Share Posted October 17, 2018 It seems like every week in the summer they nail someone in Bermuda, some of the excuses are great. You can't fix stupid
PRgymnast Posted October 17, 2018 #8 Share Posted October 17, 2018 I've smelled it just sitting out on the balcony on EVERY cruise I've ever been on! Of course, if you do decide to bring it with you, be smart about it. I had one neighbor on a cruise puff up every night at about the same time. I assumed a medicinal use person. Did not bother me one bit. However, the person smoking a cigar on their balcony did not get a smile from me the next day, lol. I heard someone else reported that person. You prob don't want to bring it if you port in Bermuda, however.
chengkp75 Posted October 17, 2018 #9 Share Posted October 17, 2018 As the ships are flagged in the Bahamas, and as marijuana is illegal in the Bahamas, it is illegal on the ship, and could result in disembarkation (though you can take your chances with being reported, or with security smelling it). So, on the ship, even in port in Canada, you take your chances. On shore in Canada you are subject to their laws.
Rare BirdTravels Posted October 17, 2018 #10 Share Posted October 17, 2018 NCL contract: DRUGS OR OTHER ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES No illegal drugs or other illegal substances including but not limited to medical marijuana are allowed onboard or may be utilized during a Norwegian Cruise Line vacation, including during transfers to and from ships, inside terminals, during shore excursions or at our private island. Illegal drugs or substances will be confiscated and appropriate action taken, which may include removal from the ship and involvement of appropriate authorities. In addition, foreign governments at Norwegian Cruise Line ports of call have strict laws that address drug possession. Guests found in violation of such laws are subject to arrest and prosecution by the foreign jurisdiction (and perhaps United States or other authorities as well) and may be prevented from re-boarding the ship.

erdoran Posted October 18, 2018 #14 Share Posted October 18, 2018 I did a Bliss Alaska cruise in September, where cannabis was legal in all the ports except Canada (and I heard it was semi-legal even there). FWIW I did NOT smell it on the ship at all. I had the same question you had; I have to admit I was very curious, and after some discussion on a similar thread, the comment was made about the helpful responses “you are giving someone advice about how to smuggle drugs internationally”. That did it for me—even if it is legal in every single port, it is NOT legal on board, and also someone said that the cruise ports are federal property so it is illegal on port property. If you want to smoke weed and you are in a weed-legal port, step ashore, find the nearest weed store, and partake—but leave any leftovers in port. Is it really worth risking jail over when you can smoke completely legally ashore?
Aesop081 Posted October 18, 2018 #15 Share Posted October 18, 2018 (edited) Canada has indeed made cannabis legal thatis a fact. Good or Bad, personal preference. However, as this sign states at every border point, including ports. As soon as you enter into, or leave Canada, with cannabis you have committed a crime. So just don't. And for those of us that don't smoke anymore (teen years were in the 70's) that stuff really stinks, please vape, or ingest...puhlease! kcdancerkc Posted October 20, 2018 #16 Share Posted October 20, 2018 Vape or gummies no smell no detection but I would not take into a port too risky although decriminalized in Jamaica
SouthLyonCruiser Posted October 20, 2018 #17 Share Posted October 20, 2018 Smuggling the substance on board and getting caught is not like that bottle of wine in your luggage. They will not just confiscate it, they may report you to the authorities and you will not be using your cruise voucher; and, by the way, no refund. Is it worth the risk???? erdoran Posted October 20, 2018 #19 Share Posted October 20, 2018 Keep in mind, the strength of the product, whether it’s edibles or smoke, may be much stronger than the “illegal” smoker is used to. We just had family members come back from Jamaica. They had bought some edibles at their resort and tried them - didn’t realize it takes a while for the effect to hit, so tried some more - and the outcome was not pleasant. I heard second-hand, but what I heard was one of them got really sick to her stomach, the other just “had too much” which was not pleasant. So even if you partake legally, you need to keep this in mind. But again....just don’t risk unpleasant legal outcomes by bringing it aboard. Not worth the consequences, and that includes edibles. Just partake ashore, and don’t overdo.
mkerewski Posted October 20, 2018 #20 Share Posted October 20, 2018 The ships have a zero tolerance policy if you get caught...happened on a cruise Jan 17, two people got caught on the ship and were escorted off in Puerto Rico. Just because the country you are going to has made it legal, doesn't mean the way you are getting there has those same policies
FranknBeans Posted October 20, 2018 #21 Share Posted October 20, 2018 What a ridiculous question. Obviously you don't pay attention the rules and reg Ie: USA and international waters. Take you head out of your cloud and READ the rules.
Shidah Posted October 20, 2018 #22 Share Posted October 20, 2018 Remember that it stays in your system far longer than other drugs, weeks. So if you work someplace that drug tests, is it worth your job too? If you are retired, then I guess go for it.
Rare Newleno Posted October 20, 2018 #23 Share Posted October 20, 2018 I hate the smell of Maryjane, however every cruise we have been in I smell it, always a chance of being caught, but hey life is about taking chances, go for it

Hotspring Posted October 20, 2018 #25 Share Posted October 20, 2018 54 minutes ago, Newleno said: Probably got sick from the edible not the maryjane That's a possibility, but while it is known Cannabis cannot really permanent damage one, it can be overwhelming when you have had too much. Just like when one drinks too much they may puke it out, the body many give those that partake in to much of the edibles the urge to expel it from their systems. Unlike smoking or vaping, the edibles can take several hours to even provide a buzz, in the meantime one expecting a quick buzz will likely over indulge in triplicate to try and attain the same effect. I enjoy a variety of chemicals from the 70's but never had a bad trip until recently tried a "legal" edible brownie, did not fill the effect and tried another. This after being clean for decades. I did not think I would live through the night with my only hope knowing that Cannabis has never been know to hurt one. You spent money for the cruise, enjoy it, why through away 12 to 18 hours having an overdose of Cannabis blow your mind. Try the Cannabis when you get back home or visit a state on land that has already legalized it.
