A Pricing Clue??

Recommended Posts

Virgin is running a contest, and this is in the rules:

Grand Prize consists of one (1) Virgin Voyages Caribbean Voyage for winner and one (1) Guest consisting of not less than 05 days/ 04 nights double occupancy stateroom accommodations on a vessel that travels to the Western Caribbean; and two (2) micro nautical tattoos at Squid Ink while on board. The approximate retail value (“ARV”) of the Grand Prize will not exceed $3,000 USD/$3,889.38 (CAD).

So, about $1400 pp for the week. That seems about right for the MSRP for a new ship.

What were the ballparks for younger demographic ships when they were new? Carnival Vista, RCCL Quantum of the Seas, etc?

Don't know about Carnival, but for RCI, a new ship in season, $200/pppd in a balcony is about right.

And, after the dining 'reveal', we know that they are not going to 'nickel & dime' us -- at least not where food is concerned! :classic_happy:

Yep, that's right in line with the Celebrity Edge interior staterooms, though Celebrity is not all inclusive with the food.  The Edge for the Caribbean in late February is $1394/pp interior stateroom.

So if that pricing is correct, it's actually a better deal than Celebrity and lower than I expected.  Only a few more weeks till the actual pricing is revealed.

But it says one person in a double cabin, so does this mean there won’t be cabins specifically for solos, or pricing for solos..

I don't think you can infer that from that message.

The solo pricing seems to be in line with some other lines. At 6+ months after the debut, the pricing still seems a bit high at about $200 pppd - I'd expect it to drop to about $150 (even with the grats and internet included). Still can't figure out what is going on with the ship before the debut - she seems to be far along enough to sail this fall.

When I pulled up pricing today for a solo outside cabin, it gave me a choice.  Either the dedicated smaller solo cabin which had a total price of $1050, or the larger double outside cabin for $1650.  The larger double cabin was basically paying 200% or double the rate.  The smaller solo cabin had a set lower price.   The choice is yours.

The issue for VV is not necessarily other cruise completion, but other vacation choices. At $500+ per day, the demographic VV is looking for, has a lot of options and may opt for things on land.

Where are you getting the $500 per day figure?

Once you get past the crazy high prices of the first few months, most terraces are in that price range ($2000-2500 for the 4-5 day sailings). Yes, you can get an inside cheaper, but the great majority of the ship cabins are terraces (and that's what most compare pricing against).

To be honest im pleasantly suprised with the prices so far. I was expecting Viking Ocean and up prices.

I hope you are not expecting Viking level experience.

Virgin already raised the price of the other Sweet Aft Suites on my sailing by $50 and they haven't even opened for public sale yet.  It appears they have implemented a dynamic pricing structure that automatically raises the price as inventory is depleted.

To be expected.
