I suppose my main concern here would be - how big is the single 'smoking room'?

If an estimated 15% of the population smokes, and the capacity of the ship is 4000 people, that is around 600 possible smokers on the ship.

But that is just my observation.

Exactly, this calculation is on the 2nd page of the spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing

Ship Name Ship Passenger Capacity # of open access designated smoking areas # of smokers per designated smoking area (CDC estimate)

Encore 3998 1 600

Wait??? Where did you read this? Why?

Normally morning of departure the ship is re fueling so no smoking on outside decks. At least this has been my experience on the CCL ships that I have cruised on. At embarkation we had to go to the casino to smoke you could not play but the bar was open and it was a great way to meet your fellow smokers first day of cruise.

Just off the Escape they did not enforce no cigarette smoking in the cigar lounge. There were so many people smoking cigarettes in there that the cigar smokers didn't want to go in. NCL should give cigarette smokers their own indoor smoking lounge.

Recently on the Epic and they strictly enforced the no cigarettes in the cigar lounge. There was almost always an NCL staff member in the cigar lounge rather loudly chastising cigarette smokers. She'd even take your ashtray away.

Oh yea, I do know about the refueling part. I thought it was just some new rule for being in ports.  Glad to hear it's not.

When we were on the Escape in Aug the workers were all telling my husband to go smoke in the cigar lounge.  They were definitely not enforcing the no cigarettes rule in there.  It was usually pretty empty in there maybe one or two other people except the last night of the cruise. It was so crowded & smokey it even bothered my husband

My husband had this same experience on the Escape.  He likes a quiet cigar in the evening but the cigar lounge was packed with cigarette smokers.  He didn't want to even go in there.

I am so glad I found this topic. Thanks to all who are contributing with information!

My husband and I will be cruising on the Pearl in late December. I don’t smoke much at all but when I drink alcohol I just have to smoke a bit more than normal. This may sound strange but I also cannot stand a lot of regular cigarette smoke. Especially in indoor areas with a lot of regular cigarette smokers. What I mean by ‘regular’ is because what I smoke are little cigars. They are cigarette tobacco with cigar paper. I swear the rancid stink of cigarette smoke comes from the paper they are wrapped in. My little cigars don’t leave the same reek that a Marlboro, etc. leaves. I myself cannot stand them even though I smoke little cigars. Because of this, if what I am reading is true(about cigarette smokers in the Cigar lounge), I don’t think I want to be in the Cigar lounge either. Lol. I will probably go in there to smoke anyways. Then when we go to our cabin later, I will shower and put my clothes in a sealable bag. I never realized how bad regular cigarettes stink until I stopped smoking them. No matter, I am sure I will meet some great people in the smoking areas. I am going to have fun and not be a smoking snob. Lol.

I just read on another thread that deck 6 on the Sun is all non smoking now and that there is only 1 outdoor area now and it’s been moved to Champs. We will be on this Saturday and I will verify.

Looking forward to your contribution to our crowd sourced document and thank you!

Just a reminder to everyone, I am trying to keep this thread data based so that I don’t have to weed through discussions/comments in order to find information that updates the spreadsheet.

I really appreciate cooperation with the goal!

Just off the Gem yesterday. I don’t know when it happened but smoking anywhere on deck 7 outside has been eliminated (all wall ash trays removed). Deck 13 bar, casino and cigar bar are the only options now.

Verified! I’m onboard and the entire area in front of Champs on 12 is a smoking section. Plenty of seating with umbrellas.

Hubby smokes the little cigars too, he was never kicked out of the cigar lounge for smoking them in there. They do not consider those cigarettes.

Just off the Pearl at the beginning of Oct and the smoking areas have changed a bit from the “Unofficial NCL Designated Smoking Areas by Ship” list.  Promenade level 7 is on the starboard side towards the back (outside of the entrance to Bliss nightclub) and only has one small wall ashtray.  Didn’t go forward on promenade to see if smoking was allowed there. Pool deck 12 is port side forward with an uncovered area next to the bar and another area under the bar cover where you can sit at tables and smoke. The cigar club always had cigarette smokers in there without any problems.

Was on the same cruise. My husband was asked to leave the cigar lounge because he smokes cigarettes. The only place for smokers is on 17th deck at the outdoor bar. It was always crowded.  In the casino there were announcements that people were allowed to smoke only if they were active players.

Found these of the Encore Smoking Area in the Everything ENCORE thread.

Tiny - no seating.

Why does the cigar lounge get huge comfy couches and chair, and we don't even get a place to sit?
