Whale Watching in Lahaina Maui

Will be cruising to Hawaii in March on Ruby Princess.  Looking for a local tour (not cruise ship) for whale watching.  Would appreciate any suggestions.  Thanks.

Google Trilogy Excursions.  Always find whales with them.

That may be true for Lahaina, but not at their Maalaea location.  If you have a rental car, Maalaea is only sixteen miles from Lahaina.

We were on Maui this January and did a whale watch with Hawaii Ocean Project and really enjoyed it.

Captain Steve's, operating out of Mala Harbor, just north of Lahaina. Great operation.

Captain Steve is another great suggestion, just be aware it’s a raft, not a catamaran.

We were in Maui in mid-April...and while the male whales were gone, there were still Mama's and babies to be seen.  We didn't do a "whale watching" tour....we simply to a trip via catamaran to another island, and there were whales not far from our boat....we also saw some in a lagoon on our way from the airport on our 1st day there.

We did a whale watching tour with Pacific Whale Foundation. The profits from the tours pay for research and conservation. pacificwhale.org

Very inexpensive and educational outing.

You are past peak season.    The above "recommendations"   out of Maalaea isn't a good option unless you are planning on a rental car?   You only want a vendor out of Lahaina I'd suggest?

 

I've gone with Boss Frog the most,   but there are several operators.   I see Trilogy there as a ship contractor,  so they may still be offering that?

 

I do find it tricky getting walk up,   but,  IF you are on the first tender you probably can book when you get there.

I am looking into Scotch Mist sailing which is located right in the harbor.  It is a true sail boat so takes smaller groups, but the price seems reasonable.

 

it seems to have good reviews and I will post my comments after I return in February.
