Such a lovely story.  I drool when thinking about Katz's Deli.  For two years in a row we have ordered food from Katz's and eat it on New Year's Eve (yes - they deliver - we don't have to go to New York).

Thank you for being personal and corny:classic_biggrin:

Good Morning:

“Neither snow nor sleet...” that was us yesterday as we braved the weather and hit manhattan harder than my friend Max going after a free buffet in a Carnival cruise.

The sailing into Port was slightly emery with all the mistiness surrounding us. We sailed under the Verazzano Bridge

And saw Lady Liberty barely visible in the mist.

We took an Uber to St Patrick’s Cathedral

Then decided to take the subway

I love this sign.

Overall, it was a wonderful day and one that the weather did not stop us even though it was pretty rainy.

Dinner was at Prime 7 last night and it was great although the service was a little slow. We had a great time with John And Karen who are such great company and friends. Dinner last night consisted of the usual apps, Caesar salad

Looking forward to seeing the 911 memorial today and getting a slice of pizza.

FYI, our free laundry occurred just as stated above,  we turned it in at noonish and it was returned the next day by 3PM either folded up in a nice box or on hangers for the shirts.  Great benny!

Many thanks!   I was afraid it would come back the week after next...  This is really manageable!  I have to assume they do not iron?  But then I can do that...

Hammie:

clothes come back ironed and you have a choice of how much starch you would like and if you would like clothes folded or on hangers.

Good Morning:

What a great day we had yesterday. With the weather in a good mood, we walked over 16k steps in the big apple. We will let our pics tell you the story:

First, we Ubered to Ground Zero and paid our respects to the fallen heroes and victims

B2699473-60B6-40F4-9FA7-FE0479513E08.thumb.jpeg.b54bb87148dea99d307a6065387d8292.jpeg

To bad there was a family visiting who thought this was more of a playground than hallowed grounds.

The tower looked amazing in the clear, bright sunshine.

After walking around the memorials, we decided to head out to Times Square so we took the subway at the beautiful Cortlandt Station.

Interestingly, we saw heavily armed cops milking around just like our airports were after 911.

We got off the subway at 42nd street and decided to do a walkabout.

But first, we stopped for a coffee and bagel at a diner since TB was jonesing for some regular coffee. The waitress was straight out of a Hollywood movie script with her wit, “...honey,” and “waddaya want?”  I was in heaven listening to her banter.

Replenished, hit the road and took in all there was to see including the ads for plays:

we headed north for a quick surprise for TB, a stopover in Central Park. Anyone with a good sense of direction could have figured out where we were heading. But, this highly educated and intelligent woman has no sense of direction which keeps me constantly amused. Anyways, The Boss was ecstatic when she first saw the park in front of her and we spent some time walking around where we were able to see the many horse carriages

And this little dude having a snack.

After the park we headed south on our final quest: to find the perfect slice. We stopped at two different joints and neither o e had the right taste or consistency. I was a stunned mullet, totally defeated, and at a loss knowing that the pizza I remember may be a thing of the past.  It even looked anorexic:

Once onboard, we prepared ourselves for the sailaway by knocking down a couple of rum drinks. The sailaway was very impressive. It made me realize that the city is constantly changing with new towers under construction.  But the cityscape is still beautiful.

Across the river, Jersey City looked like a sixth borough of New York. As we heading south, we saw the WTC tower one last time. We also went under the Verazzano Narrows bridge

And this beautiful lady:

Overall, we had a spectacular day and were very grateful for the weather. A lot of nostalgia and memories passed before us and some new memories were made.

Looking forward to reading this every day. Love your very amusing writing style, and all the pics.

we are going on our first Regent cruise in Jan, though on Voyager. I know the ships are different, but would like to know what deck you were on in that sail away from New York?

I love to have access to outdoor areas, even though we will have our own balcony.

Thanks!  We were sitting in deck 11 behind the Galileo’s Lounge facing aft. There is an outdoor seating area as well as a smoking area. On our case, we were protected from the wind and had an excellent view of New York’s skyline.  Each ship should have an outdoor area.  The Mariner has two small outside areas facing forward and flanking the Observation Lounge.

Good Morning:

Yesterday was a pretty quiet day although there was a guest lecturer speaking about the Bermuda Triangle, a cooking demonstration, and Krew Kapers. I’m ashamed to admit that our participation was zero; zip: nada. We just chilled and enjoyed John and Karen’s company. The highlight of the day was watching Karen chastise John for leaving her purse up at Galileo’s (which was also my fault).  My greatest level of effort was to get up from my seat to have the bartender add more cranberry to my vodka.

Vodka, Cranberry, and OJ for the 1100 Tea Party

Dinner was another success. It amazes me how talented is our serving team. They do not miss a beat even though folks were short handed due to krew kapers.

Our group’s dinner included mushroom soup

WARNING: CORNY ZONE ALERT. Today is my second special day of this cruise. I went to The Citadel and am proud to be an alumnus. This is where I left a pint of blood to make it through its freshman system but left with classmates who are my brothers. It made me grow up and gave my life the focus it needed.  It also laid down a strong foundation of ethics and loyalty.  This is also the place where I reported in as a freshman (aka knob) on my 18th birthday. As a present, the upperclassmen had me dry shave my 70s porn mustache.

The weather gods have taken pity on me and smile as I come back to my second home promising temps in the 70s and some sunshine.

My closest friend in the whole world whose son is a junior sent me the following to remember where we came from:

Ok I just reread my post above and we can’t leave with so much tear jerking corniness. As I said, my best friend sent me the above quote. His name is Max and he has one son who graduated from The Citadel and one who is currently a junior. Max and I served in the Air Force together for about five years of our careers. His call sign was Mad Max but we used to call him Maxsmello. We have spent hours drinking Mekong whiskey from Thailand, San Miguel beers in the Philippines, some soju in Korea and lord knows what else and where.  We are aging like some not so fine wines and still talk at least once a week. Here he is as a young captain flying in Ethiopia:
