fishr Posted October 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2018 We're planning on booking a Concierge Level Veranda Stateroom A1 on Natica. Most are on Deck 7 but there are two midship on Deck 8. What are the pros and cons of each?
Flatbush Flyer Posted October 28, 2018 #2 Share Posted October 28, 2018 FWIW, reconsider Concierge vs regular Veranda on the R ships. Some of us feel that $1000 more for a few bags of laundry but the exact same cabin is just not worth it, especially on R ships. Of course, there are some other perks like a hot (vs continental) room service breakfast, which may or may not be of value to you. Likewise, earlier pre-cruise restaurant reservations- you can change them onboard. Etc Etc. But, in the final analysis, it really is a personal choice. tropicalkerry2002 Posted October 28, 2018 #3 Share Posted October 28, 2018 I think the A1s on 8 have connecting doors to the next cabin....I wouldn't choose that.
DrHemlock Posted October 28, 2018 #4 Share Posted October 28, 2018 Correct. If you look at the deck plan for Nautica on O's website, you'll see the two little hashmarks (like "equals" signs) on the sides of 8024 and 8027, the two A1s on deck 8. These indicate connecting doors to the adjacent penthouse suite. Cabin walls are thin enough as it is. Add a door to break structural continuity and you have a conduit for listening in detail to your neighbors' conversations and TV viewing -- which, given that O attracts generally an older crowd, can mean raised voices and high volume levels to compensate for impaired hearing. (Don't flame me, please: we've experienced exactly that....and more than once.) On the other hand, if you yourself don't hear so well any more, then it may not be an issue.

If the cruise will take you through known areas of turbulent water (e.g. the South China Sea or sailing around Cape Horn) I'd recommend you book Deck 7. Classiccruiser777 Posted October 30, 2018 #6 Share Posted October 30, 2018 Deck 7 for all reasons stated above.
