New Program called "The Key"

Hmmm.. it sounds like the Key program is getting more organized. inconsistent but organized. Looking forward to trying on the Ovation July 26. I'll update when I know more.

Now I read some people post that you need to make an advanced reservation to get the reserved seats. I went on my cruise planner and can’t find anywhere to reserve seats. You can’t make a red on Explorer, so just get to the shows early enough that they haven’t released the seats to non-Key people.

Anyone use the key on the Oasis Of The Seas, embarking in Rome? Since boarding doesn't start till 2:30, how was the embarkation lunch work? Were you allowed to use it on the sea day? I have had numerous different answers from Royal Caribbean from "it has to be used on day 2 when the ship is in Naples" to "you will be able to use it any day you want since you already paid for it." 

 

I have decided to cancel but have not yet pulled the plug. I guess I am still looking for a reason to keep it.

Just out of curiosity  I checked out the price of the Key for Marie and I for our upcoming Ovation cruise. $599.80. Really?

10 at $29.99 per person, per day. And that is with a so called 20% discount.

So $600 minus about  25$ per day for 2 device internet. ($250). Cost of two lunches in Chops etc is $50 or so. So really about $300 per day for extras like expedited on and off, access to activities (worth a lot to me) and breakfast the last day. So is $300 worth it to you? 🙂  Think of it as a $150 pp up charge for fast pass and so forth.

I think the Key becomes less desireable with longer cruises.

I only need one device which I currently have for $119 so take that out we are at $481. Chops lunch on our cruise is $22 so let's remove another $88, not that I want two chops lunches. So we are at $381 to get off the ship a little earlier, and supposed access to activities. What activities are worth the $381?

front of the line to bumper cars, time at rockclimbing, flow rider etc. For us, with kids.. probably cool. But unless you really feel you have to do it all, most likely not.  reserved show seating etc.

Plus, the fact that you need only a one-device internet package changes the equation signficantly.

On Symphony when we went to the ice show I noticed the reserve seating was the front row. We sat several rows back as it was a better overall view.

Honestly for us (and I've done it) it's worth it because we always all have internet and do lots of activities. If you aren't doing those. Don't do the key. We also chose to do it in Seattle for the Ovation as we had a group of 22 (all with the key) and 12 of them are kids. Gettign everyone on and off smoothly with a relaxed breakfast the last day and escorted departure was worth it to us. Also exclusive ripcord by ifly and northstar time and bumper cars and more. Kids are ages 6-13. Perfect for them.
