Valencia and Mallorca

Hi all, wondering what the must see sights are in Valencia and Mallorca for a 1 day stop. We'll be travelling with 2 toddlers therefore everything takes twice as long...so any tips on getting around and advice would be great. Thank you!

Majorca you will arrive in Palma which us a lovely city. It's  about 45 minutes walk along the seafront to the cathedral or you can take a #1 bus from the port. There are plenty of shops and cafes and a pleasant park area in front of the cathedral.

We're just back from a land trip to Valencia. Lovely, lovely old town with several beautiful churches. (If you like beautiful interiors, the San Nicolas Church is nicknamed the Valencian Sistine chapel). There is a long park that connects the old town to the new City of Arts and Sciences with several contemporary looking museums designed by Calavatra. 

 

And if you like paella, Casa Carmela is one of the best paella restaurants in the city. It is near the beach area of the city.

Do you know if it is walkable from the cruise port?

The old town is not, but there is good public transportation (metro, trams, etc)

 

Casa Carmela might be - I don't know exactly where the cruise port is since we didn't cruise this trip. If not, would be worth an uber or taxi. Also, check the opening hours - not a tourist place so not constantly open!

Old city of Valencia is worth it!  We took a walking tour and were surprised by a festival day complete with parades and special music venues.  We loved it.  Wonderful food!  You will need to tak3 transportation from the port.

I second the recommendation for old town BUT your toddlers might enjoy the aquarium more. In addition to the usual fish tanks, it has a number of outside areas with water fowl, turtles, etc. There were several kiddie areas where they could “pet” the animals. 

 

 

The aquarium is at one end of the park that a taxi previous poster mentioned. This park is the old riverbed and along its entire length are lots of fun places for kids-including a park where they can play on a giant Gulliver!

We have been to Valencia twice and loved this city very much. 

 

It is definitely NOT walkable to get to anything worth seeing. You might want to check out the HoHo bus. This will take you thru most of the city, getting off in the 'old town. We loved this section of the city as it is wonderful to just wander around and find many great buildings. We also opted to go to the Grand market, which we found wonderful. The HoHo will also take you to the Aquarium or oceanography center. It is huge and you could spend all day there. We didn't visit it as we just preferred to ride the bus and see the city. Our second time, we opted for the #4 bus, (I think that is it) which takes you r ight to the old city and, once again, we just wandered about, checking out many things to do.

If you’re going to use a taxi in Valencia, I’d suggest downloading the MyTaxi or Cabify App to your phone. Makes it much easier to hail the cab when you are ready to head back to the ship.  Additionally, you won’t have to deal with cash. Lastly, if your Spanish isn’t up to snuff, the app will help you get to where you want to go.
