Messina and Genoa cruise stop

Hi all, wondering what the must see sights are in Messina and Genoa are for a 1 day stop. Is it possible to walk to things from the port? We'll be travelling with 2 toddlers therefore everything takes twice as long... Any tips on getting around and advice would be great. Thanks!

genoa  terminal is in the city centre  

the aquarium is within walking distance as well as the maritime musem

the old city is also closeby

There is also a Hop-On, Hop-Off bus stop right at the terminal, but with two toddlers, probably not something you'd want to do.

Is Genoa a decent enough place to spend the day or should we be trying to go somewhere else?
