Need a place to stay in Vancouver July 4th and 5th, 2019 and can't spend an arm and leg.  Recommendations appreciated.

Check out the hotels near the airport - seem to be alot less expensive.  You can catch the Skytrain almost right to the pier in the morning.

I posted similar quiestion a few days ago, cant find it now but very helpful cc member from Vancouver recommended YWCA. We have booked on their own website.  If you are a senior over 60 they even give a discount.  Our nightly rate is 140 for double and 157.50 for a twin.  Pay on arrival and can cancel up to 48 hours pre.  

Just be careful as they have rooms with bathroom down the hall, share with another room or private.  We have gone for private bathrooms.

Depending how much you value your own arm and leg you may have very few or many options. If you have not already checked TripAdvisor that's a good start - use hotel rankings, with your date, to see what the GOOD hotels are charging at the time you'll be here.

 

Any hotel cheaper than the YWCA is almost certainly not one you want to stay at though. Even airport area hotels are more expensive in summer as demand is high, and with both US and Canadian state holidays in the first week of July that is about the priciest week you will find locally so even cheap hotels jack up their rates - not the Y though, which offers fixed seasonal pricing regardless of date and demand (so go book it RIGHT NOW if you want it...)

 

Personally I'd spring for the priciest suite in the fanciest hotel at rack rate rather than give up any limb, but maybe I'm just sentimental;-)

We stayed at the Hampton Inn by the airport a few years ago pre & post cruise.  Typical Hampton Inn with free mystery scramble egg breakfast.  It's a block from a Skytrain station.  In fact there's an Indian casino/hotel, Red Hawk(?), adjacent to the station.

 

There's also one of the Asian Night Markets a few blocks away; we just walked and ate between the food stands,

Very close Philo - the casino at the SkyTrain station is River Rock rather than Red Hawk, and the Hampton's distance from it is just a wee bit further than you recall (<700 yards, quite feasible even with suitcases, but if you ask the Hampton or any other hotel shuttle to drop you there instead of the airport they should be amenable). The night market is as you recall, and still very popular - they've been adding all sorts of Stuff to entertain patrons in recent years - like animatronic dinosaurs (!?) - but the food is still the biggest draw for everyone I know!

We're doing an Alaska next Sept.  Found Times Square Suites on Robson.  Have booked them for the pre and post stay.  Reviews are good, and price was very reasonable, especially compared to other hotels in the city center area.  It's more of an apartment suite rather than the standard hotel room.  You might want to check them out.  Tripadvisor reviews are good......
