Seabourn Sojourn Shanghai to Kobe April 28, 2019

This cruise was until recently apparently sold out in Verandas but now seems to have some openings.  There are several comments on the board from people who are on the cruise but I would love to hear from someone who has done it in the past as well. It is higher priced than other legs of Sojourn's itinerary if we compare with Singapore to Hong Kong that we loved last year.  Is there a particular reason for the popularity or price?  Are the ports so much more memorable?  Any ideas on the price of the overnight side trip to Beijing?

Many thanks

I see the itinerary for this cruise has been changed.  Incheon is out (presumably that was the port to see Seoul) and Nagasaki and Busan have been added.  Two days in Busan. Does anyone have any experience of the place?  Things to do and see?

Thanks

We were in Busan and Nagasaki in April 2013.  Some of my info will be dated but it may give you some ideas.

The cruise terminal in Busan was pretty basic with a few vendors set up at the pier selling tourist stuff at high prices.  There was also a mobile Bank of Korea doing currency exchange.  We took Busan Loop Tours (HOHO) as our principal transportation. We traveled on the Haeundae and the Taejongdae routes, which we picked up at the cruise pier. We visited Jagalchi Fish Market (amazing), BIFF Square, Yongdusan Park and Lotte Department Store with its wonderful basement food hall.  Fare was 10,000 won for unlimited travel on both routes, but was reduced to 8000 won if you showed your cruise card.

If you decide on HOHO, plan your time very carefully. Buses are not very frequent - the Haeundae route was every 30 minutes while the Taejongdae route was every 40 minutes. Look at the routes, decide what you want to see, estimate how long to spend at the attractions and then see when the next bus will be. We found it difficult to do as much as we wanted to due to bus schedules. Here's a link for current info: http://www.citytourbusan.com/en2/02course/01.php

We also wanted to visit the much acclaimed Beomeosa Temple and could get there on the HOHO History and Culture Themed Tour.  We decided against it once we looked closely at the scheduled stops and realized there was only 40 min at Beomeosa Temple, which we thought would be too rushed.  Bummer since it was high on our list.

In Nagasaki, the cruise terminal is well situated within walking distance of shopping, restaurants and several attractions.  Must sees include Peace Park, the Atomic Bomb Museum and Glover Gardens. We were greeted in the terminal by friendly info staff as well as numerous volunteer citizens offering to help. We purchased a 1-day tram pass (Y500) and asked directions to the closest tram stop for Peace Park/Atomic Bomb Museum. A local woman overheard our question and escorted us to the tram stop! We found this friendliness over and over again in Nagasaki. In fact, we were blown away by the generosity and kindness of local people in every Japanese port that we visited.
