Pre-purchase casino credits

Just noticed something new when I was looking for a deal before our sailing on oasis in January and noticed they offer prepurchase of casino credits before boarding with bonus money. Up to $200 if you purchase $2000 upfront. Has anyone seen this before or is this new?

They have one for slots and one for tables, but I don’t see the difference once you cash out. Only difference I suppose would be how you have to use the bonus money.

This is temping because you are literally taking a cash advance without the costs and earning credit card rewards at the same time. I suppose that’s the same if you they already waive the 5% fee.

Has anybody used this yet?

I just noticed this today too for my March sailing. I’ve never seen it before today. When we get money off of our sea pass at the casino they give us slot tickets or chips. You can’t turn those back in for cash. You have to cash them in the machine or change out your chips at the tables before getting cash in return. I’m assuming this would work the same way.

Is there anything that stops you from inserting the slot ticket in a machine, immediately cashing it out, and using that to get cash at the cashier?

I don’t think so. I did that after spending a few dollars in the machine. The original tickets and chips are designated differently so they know not to cash them. This was new to me on Harmony last month. When we were on the Harmony in May they just handed me cash. That was much better.

Bob, it’s listed on one of our cruises.  The fine print is quite long and restrictive.

for table play all chips will be issued as promotional chips and played through.  No contra betting allowed.  If you want to cancel the package it must be done through the cruise planner, it cannot be cancelled on board.  You have to be the one to play the chips.

Limit one denomination per Offer, Offer limit up to $2,000 value per person. Offer must be redeemed at Casino cage during casino open hours by the guest who purchased Offer. Redemption is the responsibility of the guest; value of Offer expires at the end of the cruise. For table play, promotional chips will be issued all at once; promotional chips must be played through and are not redeemable for cash. No contra betting permitted on Roulette or Baccarat. Promotional chips must be used by the SeaPass holder who purchased Offer. Chip denominations are subject to availability. Guest must present SeaPass at table play for Casino recording.

Cancellations can only be made pre-cruise via Cruise Planner; refunds will be made to the original form of payment. After Cruise Planner closes for the sailing, all sales are final. Offer is not transferable, not redeemable for cash or onboard credit, for casino game-play only, and must be used by the final night of the cruise. Promotional chips may not be bartered, sold, transferred, assigned, or gifted. Offer is subject to availability and change without notice and may be withdrawn at any time. Thanks Ken, as usual you have the best info.

It looks like the terms above cover chips for live gaming, but I don't see anything about machine play.  Perhaps this offer only applies to live gaming?

Heres the T&C’s for the slots.  Just as restrictive.

Redemption is the responsibility of the guest; value of Offer expires at the end of the cruise. For slot play, full promotional value of bonus slot credits will be loaded to guest’s SeaPass card. Promotional slot credits must be played through and are not redeemable for cash. Promotional credits must be used by the SeaPass holder who purchased Offer.

Seems to imply that the slot play value is loaded on the SeaPass card.   If true, I would think that this would require modifications to the machines as this has not been possible in the past.  Maybe only for new ships.

Thanks again.

I would also suspect that this spells the end of easily cashing out OBC even with the workarounds that folks have come up with.

I agree about the new ships unless it is easy to reprogram the machines.

I have a good idea of how the bonus money works. But just wondering how they paid credits are issued. Do you get a slot voucher or chips of the purchased value?

From what I understand, you can get the credit value you purchased since it's good as cash. But for slots, the bonus funds are on your seapass card. Those funds cant be cashed out until they're played. So if you have $50 in bonus funds, you won't be able to cash it out unless you've wagered $50. For table games you proabably get some tokens on vouchers. You have to wager them and win to get cash. If you bet $25 of bonus and win, they take the voucher and you keep the win. If you lose they just take the voucher.

If there's no other restriction, then I'd purchase $2000 for the max $200 bonus.

Read the above terms and conditions.  The entire amount that you purchase is considered promotional and issued in promotional chips or on your seapass.

A lot of the ships have the ability to transfer money to and from the slot machine to your sea pass card and then back to another machine.   Keeps us from having a lot of vouchers in hand and also from having large amounts of credits showing on the machine.  We get a good hit and then transfer it to our card, then transfer a little back to the machine.  DW likes it because that way she can “borrow” my seapass for a minute and then when I get it back for some reason I have less money.  the process is already in place, it uses the same features as when you play your credits earned at the end of the cruise.

That would make it a non starter for me, I don’t think your acquire points when using promo play.

This capability is on older Royal ships?  I thought the machines had to print cashout tickets to move money to another machine.

Thanks Ken! It says "After Cruise Planner closes for the sailing, all sales are final".  What if something happened at the last minute and you couldn't sail?  Would you get your $ back?  Not sure I like this new offer! 😞

I would guess that yes you would get refunded, just the same as if you had the beverage package and didn’t sail.

Royal has always refunded pre-cruise purchases in the case of cancel or no-show.

I've played at enough casinos to know. Im almost certain the promotional value refers to the bonus money. I think the idea is you have you bring all that extra cash burning a hole in your pocket begging to be played. I did call Casino Royale and they didn't seem to have a clear understanding of the promotion.

The restrictions only require you to play all the bonus funds before that can be redeemed. So you can't just show up get your chips bonus and cash out the bonus funds on the spot since those aren't redeemable before being converted to cash from play.

Yes they do- they record the table play as if it were cash so when you sit down with these special chips they will record what you are playing with $200= $200. etc

However if they did that then many people would be doing that just to get the free money to gamble with no intention of gambling another nickel.  Not a very good business decision.I still stand by what I stated that the entire amount will be promotional and must be played through.

i don't use $2000 on any cruise so my best bet is to purchase the $1000 for the extra $75 table play which i ALWAYS use and go from there.  when they pay out when you are using these chips they pay you with real chips.  I had some special chips that i won and used them to play and they paid me in real chips which i could cash in.  when i lost they took the special ones etc.
