As they are using their mailing marketing list... only a very small subsection will ever receive this!  I'm still waiting for the advance booking phone call telling me that Anthem is going on sale, and the email advising me that I get a 5% discount on UK prices.......

They are using the e mail that you provide when booking that is attached to your reservation, not their marketing list. E mail copies will also go to TA's

If you didn't or your TA didn't enter an e mail address then you won't receive the offer.

A. To receive an email invitation to bid on a stateroom upgrade, guests must be opted-in to RCI Marketing emails.

You would still have to enter an e mail address when creating your booking and opt in at the time without an e mail attached to the booking they would not be able to cross reference

I'm told Celebrity has been doing this as well

Yes they have.

We got the offer for August 2018 B2B to upgrade from Aqua to one of 3 Suite categories. Did not take. This was via email link that led you to the same kind of page that NCL has with the bid rating.

I guess that will delete the D+/P listed benefit of "priority access on stateroom upgrades, (If available) "  Seems recently newer cruisers were given priority  anyway. It has been years since a complimentary upgrade, and only a few times have we been able to get a paid upgrade.  I am sure I won't bother to bid for an upgrade.

M

Been cruising 30+ yrs on Royal, made Diamond 20yrs ago, Diamond Plus and should be P by 2020 and never received or offered an Upgrade. Only "Upgrades" got was changing cabins myself from a Balcony to a 2Bd/2BA or Jr Suite on my own when they were cheaper then the Balcony(D1 at the time)...

Here's the flyer

Interesting end to the fine print:

"Royal Caribbean cannot guarantee a specific cabin number assignment within the upgraded category. Your cabin number will depend on space availability and cannot be changed."

That's worse than a GTY booking.

It would be nice if they just spent some time fixing their website before adding any more things to screw up.

I hear you!

Royal may be using a third party upgrade "program" like NCL does, so anybody at random on their email list could get the offer if they have opted in for emails.
I am told that on NCL the TA also has to opt in for the client to receive this offer by email. One TA of mine does NOT so we never get any offers when we book via that TA. Another TA does, so we do get offers when we book with the other one. Not sure how Royal will work with the opt ins/opt outs.

Have I confused everyone enough yet? 🙂

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The upgrade email does not give you a specific cabin #, only gives a category. Like a GTY,  and worse because you cannot move to another cabin (once assigned) even in the same category. This is exactly the same as NCL. I am sure it is the same third party company too.

You also might not know anything until 2 days before sailing

Q. When will my client know if their RoyalUp℠offer got accepted?

A. The offer can be accepted anytime from the moment it is submitted up until 2 days prior to voyage departure. Your client will receive an email notifying them of their accepted offer.

If two bids are equal, will C&A points break the tie?

Does current cabin category impact the bid?

Does price paid Ft or original cabin impact the bid?

Are they using actual categories or GTY categories?

Will people in full price suites turn their nose up at 'Bid People'? 😉

I was hoping it would be live bidding like eBay.

All those commoners with me found suite access.  They’ll probably never leave their window seat all week.😁😜

Little britain can you tell me where you go online to opt in for upgrades please?  I can't seem to find it.

She doesn't seem to have much luck. 😉  I got the opt in completed through the Casino. C&A can do it as well

This is like the olden days when they had a "Pier Coordinator" off to the side of the check-in counters, and you'd go there to see if you could get an upgrade.  Used to have a price schedule, too, and it was posted here on CC.  Something like $100 per cabin from ov to balcony.

We got complimentary upgrades several times in our early days of cruising.  Just like Pavlov's dog, Mr. pcur wistfully hopes they will give us an upgrade every. single. cruise.

I also remember a fixed price of $400 to upgrade from a balcony to a JS on a 7-night cruise.
