Cartagena - last boarding call

Hi, we are on the Star Breeze with a stop in Cartegena on a Friday.  The itinerary says that the ship leaves Cartegena at 11:59PM. All of the Windstar excursions get back to the ship early afternoon.

Does anyone know the actual time we need to be back on board the ship?  On a previous Windstar cruise, the ship stayed in port overnight but we have to be back on board by 5:30 PM

Are there things to do walking distance from the ship and is it safe enough right around the port for a couple or maybe a small group to explore?

Thanks

There is really nothing to see around the port.  The charming and beautiful old city is a ten-minute taxi drive from the port.  Cartagena is very hot and humid, and the walk to the old city and tourist areas would be long and unpleasant.  Explore the old city!
