I just thought of this......With the "Royal Up" process now in full operation, does it make sense to book and interior or ocean view room and hope for an opportunity to bid on a Balcony room, if that's your end goal?   Of course you'd have to be willing to live with your first choice should the bidding not be available or accepted.

I did a compare for a random sailing.  Symphony Feb 2020. two people, one room.....

    Interior  $2238

    Outside View  $2462    ( +$224)

    Balcony  $2677   (+$439 from interior)

Maybe marginal to no savings but interesting if it can be "played" this way.

We are sailing Grandeur of the Seas in April.  We just received an email from Royal Caribbean asking us to make a bid on a Grand Suite, Owner's Suite, or Royal Suite.  At this point, the only one shown available on website is Royal Suite.  Hope someone in an Owner's Suite - bids on Royal, so someone from Grand can bid on Owner's, and we in JR suite can bid on a Grand Suite.  It says we will be notified by email if our bid is accepted and a new cabin is assigned.  They said it could take up to 2 days before sailing to get the upgrade, if available.  I know it is different with each sailing - anyone have experience with this?  Pro or con program?  When did you hear you got upgrade - right before the cruise or a few weeks before?  Just curious about the success rate for anyone who was lucky enough to get an upgrade.  Bidding is a total crapshoot.  Any information appreciated!

I think most reports and my experience is that the e-mail comes around 1PM the day before the sailing - so about 24 hrs notice.

We received ours between 36-48 hours prior. The website states that you will be informed 24 hours prior to your sailing either way.

Will you be willing to share where your bid was on the “poor, fair” meter?  Just trying to get a feel if “overbidding” doesn’t work.

We bid the minimum

I just got my royal up email today for my April 23 sailing on Anthem of the Seas.... I am beyond excited. We are currently in a Jr. Suite and put in a bid on a grand suite, owners suite and sky loft suite. We originally booked on our last cruise and then transfered the booking to a TA.

We're booked on the Anthem 3/3/2019 cruise in a Balcony cabin that is larger than most.  We got one of those where you don't pay for a larger balcony but get a deeper one gratis.  There's a few of those on Anthem.  I got the Royal Up offer on February 1st so about a month out. I could have bid on Sky Loft, OS, GS, and JS.  We like our cabin and location so I didn't go for the JS.  Ended up bidding on GS.  Minimum bid was $400 or $450 pp.  I bid $550 pp.  Also bid on OS.  Minimum was $500 or $550 and I bid $580.  No word yet.  I'm guessing I'll get a decline letter based on what I saw today.

I went in to look where you can modify your bid.  Minimum bid for a GS is now $1500 pp.  Minimum bid on the JS went from $250 originally to $500 pp now.  They also added an offer of Spacious Ocean View Balcony with a minimum bid of $50 pp.  Never know what might happen as it gets closer to sail date, but I'm not holding my breath.  It would be nice to end up in a GS or OS, but we'll be happy either way.

If you bid and win a star category cabin do you receive all the perks such as beverage package, tips, dining etc?  I checked the thread and have not seen any mention of this.

Yes you, I bid and won a sky class and will get l of the benefits.

I am more curious about the star class which includes beverage package, dining package, prepaid gratuities but thank you for your quick response. 🙂

The cabin I have been stalking just jumped 2K during this new “Presidents Day sale” and I have a long time before sailing but I was curious if bidding max may be an option if it includes everything.
