Al the pal Posted February 2, 2019 Author #26 Share Posted February 2, 2019 There is no doubt that Yellow Fever is a nasty disease, but our cruse situation of visiting 'yellow fever' countries ONLY ON THE COAST FOR UNDER 10 HOURS is significantly different than visiting said countries for a few days, and perhaps inland. I phoned Holland America again this morning, and they specifically said (recorded) that we do NOT need a yellow fever vaccination for this Panama Canal cruise. The Yellow Fever is not present in Cartagena and other countries do not require proof of vaccination. All we (US and Canada citizens) need is our valid passports. Hooray! Hmm, so mosquitoes will not bite you if you are not there for very long??????? Malaria is transmitted by dusk/dawn biting mosquito, so a visit during the day will have less risk that one around sunrise or sundown. At least one of the yellow fever carrier mosquitoes is a day biting mosquito. So unless you visit during the night, you are at risk.
