Phone service and wi-fi in Cuba

Does anyone know if the phone service in Cuba is the same as other islands in the Caribbean?

No, it is not the same. I know Verizon and AT&T work, but cell service only (voice calls and SMS texts), no data. It is expensive as well. Most of the upper end hotels have Wi-Fi and some eating establishments.

T-Mobile works, but it's $5/minute and data was $18/mb as of 2 months ago.

Verizon offers data, but it's $2.09/MB.  They don't have any plans for Cuba yet and no travel pass.

I was able to purchase 1 hr of wife for 1 CUC inside the ship terminal. Only worked in the terminal (not on the ship).  I think the code would also work in WiFi parks but  never tried.    Was SLOW, but perfect for us for a quick check in back home to see how the dogs and pet nanny were doing.   Walk off the terminal and thru the X-ray machines.    Money exchange straight ahead.     Booth to buy minutes is to the right tucker in a corner near the stairs.
