English Harbour and Beaches on your own

The two of us would like to visit English Harbour/Nelson’s Dockyard and thereafter spend some time at one or multiple beaches (Jolly Harbour, Valley Church, Ffryes and/or Darkwood). We want to be flexible time-wise and spend as much or as little time at each place as we feel at that time, so think taking taxis first from St John’s to English Harbour and then from English Harbour to one of the beaches would work best for us. 

We’ve been looking at taxis fares at the official Antigua tourism website http://www.visitantiguabarbuda.com/travel-directory/taxi-information/

but can’t really figure everything out, so could use some help.

 

Are the taxis "regular cars" that we would have to ourselves or vans that we would share with other people (and thus have to wait for them to fill up before driving off)? 

What is taxi fare from St Johns to English Harbour for the two of us? Same questions for drive from English Harbour to beaches and from beach back to St Johns?

(Fare to English Harbour appears to be US$ 24 and from beach back to St Johns around US$26-28 depending on which beach - but not clear if this is per person or per car. Also can't find anything on fare between English Harbour and beaches)

 

How much time is the drive from St Johns to English Harbour and how much time from English Harbour to mentioned beaches (and finally back to St Johns)?

 

How easy or time-consuming would it be to get a taxi at beach areas?

We would probably hang out at beach club like  Jacqui O's at Love Beach, Dennis at Ffryes or Castaway's at Jolly Harbor Beach - so guessing those could call taxis if not readily available.

Note your interest in Jacqui O's.

One can't just rock up, grab a sunbed and a hang out.  

It is not that type of establishment.  

Think shabby chic upmarket club for genteel guests.

Book your lunch and day at JO's well in advance as places are limited.

 

Your other beach suggestions look more suitable for your requirements.

Sorry, but unable to confirm all your various price options.  Your method seems to be a lot of faffing about; price from here to there, find a taxi when there to eslsewhwere, and so on.

Also, the prices on the link are two years out of date.

Personally, would hire a driver/guide for the day.  Then you can do every Site and Beach on your list, and safely back to the ship, all in your time.

Plus your driver will take you to special local places for lunch etc., all away from the tourist map.

 

Think about $150.00/$160.00 for the driver, plus admissions (allow $40.00) and tip.  

Price of Lunch also additional.
