That said, where do you want to change bills, and bills of what currency? I would think that this topic would properly belong under ports of call.

Should not be an issue on any ship. Go to the casino, and there will be a machine to cash in tickets and change bills. No charge for doing it.  (Since you mention 20's to 5's I assume that you mean $USD.)

If the ship currency is US$ you should be able to change bills at the Passenger Service Desk (AKA Purser's Desk).

I am reading this thread on the "Ask A Cruise Question" forum. Either the op's original post was made on another forum and moved here, or gnome12 is wrong. Asking questions like the op's is exactly what this forum is intended for.

I would imagine it can also change CAD to USD,  perhaps not at a good exchange rate.  Might work out better to use the ship ATM  for getting  USD. BTW, last time I used the ship ATM on RCI, it dispensed 50's.

Assuming you have US  $$ and just want smaller US $$, yes,  you can exchange on the ship, but why wait in a queue......just bring smaller bills with you. We usually bring a lot of $1's and $5's for when in ports in the Caribbean for tipping, a beverage, something from a souvenir stall.

OP is from Canada.

 

They might be changing Canadian dollars into US dollars -- won't get a good exchange rate on the ship.

 

They might be better off changing Canadian money to US money before leaving home.  Then they can change larger US bills into smaller bills once on the ship.

We bring lots of small bills, but never had a issue getting small bills on ship.

I do wish when a thread was moved it would show where it was moved from.  Currently it shows in the forum it was posted in with a link to where it is now posted, but no reference of the move for those of us that find it in the "corrected" forum.  It has become a source of confusion more than once.

 

OP - I don't know if you are from Ontario, Canada or Ontario, California.  Assuming you are sailing from a US port though, the ships operate on USD.  I would have a variety of US denominations with you just in case guest services have lots of people making change and they run short.  I don't think it happens often, but we did have a cruise where we couldn't get as many smaller bills as we would have liked.
