hotels near fort lauderdale airport

Recommended Posts

We will be cruising RCCL March 2019 out of Miami and coming in one day early before our cruise.   Checking airlines, I think it would be better to fly into Fort Lauderdale and then find transportation to the cruise terminal in Miami.  Does anyone have any suggestions of hotels in Fort Lauderdale and what kind of transportation we could use for 5 people to get to the RCCL cruise terminal in Miami or would it be better to find a hotel in Miami and then get transportation to the cruise terminal.  Thank you!

In addition to the responses you will receive here, check out the Florida Departures Board:  https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/386-florida-departures/ where these questions are asked frequently.  You'll get the most specific replies if you include the date, your budget, and any other specific hotel requirements (for example, 5 in one room or two?).  There are also lots of postings on taking shuttles from certain hotels in FLL to Port Miami, using Uber/Lyft, and taxis.

We’ve tried different things. From staying at the W Resort on Ft Lauderdale Beach to the YVE Hotel in downtown Miami near the port. All great options depending on your budget and what you’re trying to get out of your pre-cruise stay. Do you want to kickstart your vacation by staying at a nice beachfront resort or do you just want a convenient place to stay near the port? There are tons of options in between.

As far as transportation, we’ve rented a car at the airport and then dropped it off at the downtown Miami location with a free shuttle to the port. We’ve also done Uber and it has worked out great as well. Once again, it boils down to personal preference.

We will probably need 3 rooms and do not want to spend too much for the hotel.

We recently stayed at Hyatt Place Fort Lauderdale 17th Street Convention Center. Price was average but we were able to get a room with 2 double beds and a pull out sofa so not sure how many people you have but the pull out sofa may cut the rooms from 3 to 2.

March is pretty high season, and you are booking relatively last minute. You may need to refine your definition of "too much". Of course we don't know what your definition is.

There are many hotels in both FLL and MIA.  Check out Expedia (even if you don't book with them)  they show hotels, prices, location, proximity to airport, comp shuttle or not, amenities, etc.  You can Ube/Lyft, cab or car service to MIA and whether you stay in FLL and go to MIA the next day, or go to MIA upon arrival depends on what "deal" you can get in either place.  The cost of transportation between FLL and MIA is going to be pretty much the same whether you do it the day you arrive of the following.

You will find nothing is "cheap" there....Do a search on Hotels.com....but don't book thru them...it's a good way to see and compare everything in a given area...If you find something you like, call the hotel directly and book...ask if they have any "specials"...they usually do.  Don't use the hotel's 800 #, either!

We have stayed here several times.  The price is not exorbitant and they offer free breakfast and it is very close to the airport.  Also the rooms are large and quite comfortable.  Good Luck and enjoy your cruise.

Many cruisers stay at the Embassy Suites on S17th st. They have a shuttle for a price which will take you to Port of Miami.

Just about every major chain has hotels by the airport or on 17th street. Easy to go on line or call to find out prices/options.

Also try Trivago for hotels.  I was able to get the hotel I wanted for $50 less than what Hotels dot com was showing.

If you are staying on or around 17th or the beach and there are two of you don't bother paying for a shuttle. Grab a cab.   The cost difference is insignificant.

Uber or Lyft is better. We paid $7.31 for 3 of us from the hotel on 17th Street to the Pier when using Uber

Was that the price to Miami from FLL because that’s what the OP is asking.

That was to FLL but also took an Uber from Miami port to a hotel in FLL and it was $35 vs the $45 I paid 4 months before from port of Miami to a hotel by the Miami airport.

TRYP Wyndham in Ft Lauderdale is pretty new and unique.  Airport shuttle is provided.  Staff was helpful.  Has a bar on site and lots of delivery options for food.
I only use SAS Transport from Ft Lauderdale to Miami and back...$15pp and consistent.
Have a great trip!!

There is no need to stay near any port. Stay wherever you can find a good deal. You can get a cab for transport or the biggest Ubers will work.
