Cozumel excursions

We are first time cruisers and first time to Cozumel.  We thought about doing a dolphin excursion but many say they’re way overpriced for what you get.  My wife loves the beach and likes snorkeling.  I’d like opinions as to whether we should stick with a dolphin encounter, one of the snorkeling excursions, or go it alone.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you do go with a dolphin encounter; it is better to buy the swim with dolphins verses just encounter; where you pet the dolphin.  When you swim with them; you get to hold onto their fin and the take you for a ride

For Cozumel, I'd recommend Chankanaab or Money Bar Beach.  Easy taxi ride to each (taxis are regulated there).  Both have snorkeling available (free with your own equipment or rent some there) and food available for purchase.  Chankanaab has dolphin pens if you decide to go that route.

If you want a great beach that's quiet, try Nachi CoCom. It's about 15 minutes by taxi; book it on line for $55/person - all you can drink and eat. You can arrange a snorkeling trip, ride a jet ski, get a massage - all for an extra fee. They only take 130 people a day, so it's not overcrowded. There is a restaurant on the premises or they will bring your food/drink down to you on the beach. There is also a pool/hot tub.

We NEVER buy an excursion in Cozumel.  It is soooo easy to do on your own.  Follow the advice above and check out the port of call forum for Coz.  It is extensive and has some really great information.  Just grab a taxi and do your own thing (even if that thing is swimming with dolphins).

A great suggestion , sells out early , book online . Been there 3 times always a good beach day experience with drinks & food included.

  • 2 weeks later...

Chalkanab Park and the swim with the dolphins was incredible for us.  We didn't book through the cruise line, but booked directly and had a great time.  My mom, in her mid-70s also went para-sailing in Cozumel.
