How does this work!   I have 99 days and going on the Statendam next month!!!  I dont recall ever seeing any being given out.  Thanks

You'll get it on your Nieuw Statendam cruise. Wouldn't hurt to remind Guest Services after you board

As Copper said, you should receive it at a Medallion Ceremony just before the Mariners Lunch. Make sure that guest services knows that you are to receive it.

You will get  your medallion on this cruise.  Late in the cruise they normally have a Mariner Luncheon with a special Mariner presentation just before it in one of the showrooms/meeting rooms.  You will be called to the front to receive your medallion from the Captain and a photo will be taken (you will get it later in your cabin).

Afterwards, everyone will proceed to the Main Dining Room for a special lunch (where you will get your souvenir tile also.

The reason you probably have never seen them given out is because it is done at a special ceremony where only the 4 and 5 star Mariners, sometimes the 3 star Mariners are invited to see new people receive the various medallions.

As said -- go to the front desk early in the cruise to make certain you are on the list to be invited to the ceremony to receive your medal.

On my recent Koningsdam TransAtlantic the Medals Ceremony was held in the Queens Lounge (BB King Venue) so everyone walking by was able to see the medallions prior to the actual ceremony. I didn't stay for the actual ceremony but it would have been visible to anyone walking by.

Not to be a spoilsport, but I thought in the past I had read that you got your medallion on the cruise after the cruise that you earned it on. Did I misread? :classic_unsure: I like this way, better!

The "Star" program gives benefits on the next cruise, "Medallions" are issued on the cruise they are earned.

Thanks! I had forgotten about the differences in  the 2 different awards...😉

Congratulations on your 100 day medallion award! It's just a simple medallion, but for someone who enjoys cruising, receiving it will be a lovely memory for you to look back on. We received ours last year on the Veendam. Actually, we didn't even realize we were at the 100 day mark. We received the usual invitation to the mariner's luncheon, and it was followed up by a phone call, asking us to confirm that we were going to be there. I'm glad we went. Enjoy your cruise!

I loved getting my 100 day medallion! Two of my dinner companions even came to the ceremony. I know I was the youngest person getting the 100 day medallion. Someone there had 1400 days at sea-I was absolutely amazed by that!! And I thought the ceremony really cool - can't wait to get my 300 day one, but not being retired, it's going to take quite awhile.

Congratulations on your 100 day medallion award.   We got ours on the a cruise to Hawaii on the Oosterdam (2011).   We have worn them to every mariner luncheon since. We are very proud of them, actually we never thought it would happen.  We are 48 days short of the 300 day medallion and unfortunately we do not expect to get that one, but we are trying, our next cruise is 26 days long in Oct.

We've never chosen to attend a mariners' luncheon and so were quite surprised to find two medallions in our cabin one evening.  We've always rec'd invitations which require an RSVP to which we respond upon receipt.

With all the glowing reports of the luncheons I might just try to convince Bob to attend on our upcoming cruise.

We do take note of the accumulation of stars for the few benefits they offer.

We do enjoy HAL as do we also enjoy Princess and Celebrity.

On my second cruise (2001) I was at the Mariners reception, then held in the showroom with a presentation showing what was coming up with HAL, and I saw people getting their medallions. I remember thinking that I would never get one. I got my 100 day medallion a couple of years ago on the Noordam and will receive my 300 in a couple of weeks. It is a nice, tho expensive, momento of my cruise history.

Like you, we very rarely attend the Mariners' Luncheon.  We do however attend every Mariners' Reception (love that free champagne, NOT!) to see people get their medallions.  It is always nice to see people recognized in some way and they all seem quite happy to receive their medallion, however tacky it may be seen by some.  And then we head for a nice lunch at the Pinnacle Grill. 🙂

We got ours (100 day) last year on our cruise from SF to New Zealand. It was a nice ceremony with a drink of our choice. We were then individually escorted to the dining room for the Mariners lunch. I got the old style and Mrs. DD got the new style. It was a nice ceremony.
