Just booked! 🙂 Me and my two adult children -- Daughter 28, Son 25 -- So over the top happy!

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO dtillema:  Welcome to this cruise and cruise board.  We all will have a great time on this trip.  Our two ports-of-call are really good places to visit.  Been to each one multiple times.  You all should have a really good time.  Once again, welcome aboard the Carnival Mardi Gras.

What restaurants do you recommend?  We are probably just going to rent a car at each port, so can drive everywhere.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO rjwlfan4us:  The restaurants that you may like depends on your taste.  No one else knows that.  Why rent a car?  Where are you going to drive to?  Both of these cities are highly walkable.  Most places can be gotten to by walking.  If you wish to go to a specific place go on a tour.  You get caught in traffic someplace the ship will not wait until you get back.  It will on a sponsored tour.

I really hope we get Shaq on this cruise. They have been using him for all the promo stuff and it would kinda make sense for him to be on the US launch of their newest and biggest ship to date.

I think it’s very doubtful.  I haven’t heard John Heald mention it.  I wonder if Carnival is getting their money’s worth using Shaq in ads.

We love seafood restaurants and lobster.  We have rented cars in Hawaii without any problems.  I don’t see the time as a factor, especially in Saint John.

We love lobster too! I seen places online where you can go out on a boat and catch your own lobster that they then cook to perfection!

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO rjwlfan and mrsblackson:  The last two times we've been to New England/Canada there has been at least one tour that got caught up in traffic thus belaying the departure time.  Not always at one specific port.  Road work and traffic tie ups have been the major culprit.  If you are not on a sponsored tour the cruise line will not hold up the departure time just because you haven't arrived yet.  On Youtube.com watch the pier runners.

I always book tours on my own. Here and in Europe. I'm always mindful of the time and make sure to allow plenty to get back to the ship. But thanks for the info.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Fellow Cruisers:  We have ten months exactly to go until our cruise.  At this time, we should be in our stateroom getting ready for dinner.  We have early dinner.  Then it will be to the show then the casino.

I make sure to return to watch the peer runners.  If we do rent a car in Portland, we’ll drive around, then eat lunch, then return the car.  If everything we want to do is walking distance from the ship, then we won’t rent a car.  I’ve been busy going on cruises and researching future cruises, before this one, so really haven’t looked into what we will be doing on this cruise yet.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO IloveOrchids:  Welcome to this cruise and cruise board.  Good to have you on this cruise.  Boston is a great town.  Love the Red Sox and the Celtics.  When on the Carnival Glory some years back took the tour of Fenway Park. Come a day early and see some sights.

I saw is offer under another Cruise Critic Carnival VIFP deals posting, that if you book a balcony or suite on Mardi gras you can get a $100 onboard credit per person.   If you fill out the “Early Saver Price Protection Form” it’s possible to get a credit.  Or if you have this offer, call carnival and give them the offer code. (Which I don't know what it is).  Just check all the small print.

The other cruise critic member was awarded the $200 total credit within the hour!

The deal is valid through December 16th. Here’s a link to the form:

https://www.carnival.com/core/requestforms/priceprotection.aspx.

I hope this helps others

Double damn. And i just had to cancel two other cruises. Was so counting in this one. And it was a free gambling cruise on top of that. Sigh. . .the universe’s way of telling me to put money towards the WC!
bit i didn’t get any notice of details from Carnival. Just a short “sorry your cruise was cancelled”.

Everybody probably has heard that this cruise is cancelled.  I am very sad.

Your existing reservations will be automatically canceled and a
full refund of the cruise fare, including applicable taxes, fees and
port expenses, and any pre-purchased items (i.e., Carnival Vacation
Protection and shore excursions), will be issued to their original form
of payment.

Gift Card refunds should be mailed to the address of record.
Please check your address on your profile on Carnival.com for accuracy.
(Note: This also applies to Early Saver reservations. Refunds could take
up to three weeks to process through your bank).
You will receive a 25% future cruise credit (FCC) on any Carnival cruise
booked in the next 12 months (by December 20, 2020).
The FCC will be based on the fare paid on the cancelled cruise(s) minus
port fees taxes and gratuities

Rebook a cruise using the 25% FCC by February 18, 2020, and you will
receive an additional $100, per person, onboard credit for that cruise.
Carnival is automatically canceling your reservations and processing
refunds, please let me know when you've received it.
Additionally, next month Carnival will open a series of special sailings
to celebrate Carnival’s 50 Years of Fun in March, 2022. As soon as they
Released, I will obtain group space
You are welcome to use the FCC on one of these special sailings, another
Mardi Gras itinerary, or any voyage of your choice.
