Jade/Breakaway passengers stuck at JFK

NCL arranged for our flights from JFK to Miami, sailing today 2/24/19. Flight was scheduled to leave at 9am, and all was well. We boarded the flight, they were ready to shut the doors, then they kicked everyone off the plane (American Airlines).

Apparently AA had a flight going to Vail CO that didn't have a high altitude plane assigned to them. Our plane that we were sitting on was. So instead of cancelling the CO flight and inconveniencing those passengers, they kicked all of us off our plane and gave it to them.

We've all been sitting here waiting for a new plane from Delta to arrive because AA doesn't have another plane available. It is now 10am, estimate board time is bumped to 10:45, ETA in Miami 1:45pm.

Passengers here waiting for the Jade and Getaway, as well as some traveling on Carnival. Talk about a complete mess with everyone now having to rush and fight for shuttles to catch the ships due to not inconveniencing the Colorado passengers.

Hope it was worth it AA because you've got 50+ people that are now screwed. NCL is telling us if we don't make the 2pm shuttle we have to take a cab and run.

I know it's not there fault of NCL, but come on, make arrangements to help your guests for the airline YOU choose for all of us.

Sorry to hear that but that is what NCL's travel help desk is telling you ?

Do you have mobile apps like FlightAware to track flight stat ?  A quick lookup, I see JFK airport ops shown was normal but showing delays, FAA or air traffic could be in play shortly,  main problem is with the airline(s) used & selected by NCL.  Hopefully, folks are smart enough to have travel/trip insurance to cover expenses; and that NCL should take responsibility for getting you to the ship, as they are known to "sometimes" hold the ship for sailing later than scheduled.

I see AA 1610, JFK @10:35 departure for MIA, arriving @13:42 DELAYED ... and

AA 1571 @ 10:59 for MIA, arriving @13:42  << out of Terminal 8 @ JFK >>

DL 2465 scheduled @11:41 departure JFK for MIA, arriving 14:19 and the aircraft is currently in-bound  << out of Terminal 2, different gate & terminal >>

Furthermore, I see AA, DL and JetBlue flights that left their airline gates 30+ minutes ago & began taxiing, still being held on the ground & not yet airborne ... if there is a DL flight, at a different terminal, and you are there waiting to board shortly, I am not sure if a close-to on-time departure is realistic (take into account ground servicing & turnaround time for the aircraft, etc.)

Do you have checked bags or only flying with carry-ons; and, does the airlines have your checked luggage ??

Very frustrating as I'm sure to any travelers ... keep us posted, not sure what & how we can help you ... might want to tweet or post a message to NCL on social media (FB) as they sometimes respond & are known to monitor it.

Breakaway carries 4,000 pax.

Which group would you inconvenience??

Have a heart !  It would not inconvenience me if the cruise left port 1 hour late. Have you not been on a cruise when there was a delay for a medical emergency or a tour that was a little late in returning.

Don't mess with a shuttle, scheduling, rescheduling crap.  . Take a taxi or an Uber - no scheduling, no rescheduling, no waiting even a few minutes for a bunch of other random passengers to get their luggage.   Taxi/Uber gets your own ride, minutes after collecting your suitcases without waiting for anybody.

I think you will be fine.

My fingers are crossed for all to arrive on time!

I think EVERYONE on these boards wants to know what happens in situations like this, where you are on NCL flights and the flight is so late that pax can't get to the ship on time.  Please keep us posted on how things develop.  For me, that's one of the biggest reasons I don't book air with NCL (although there are others) because I'm petrified to fly in same day, too many things can go wrong.

I doubt very much anyone would be upset if departure is delayed an hour or two; I think more people would be upset if they were standing on the dock looking at an empty berthing slip...

That's why I won't take Free air as a perk.

I hope you make it and I think the ship should wait for you guys considering it's not a huge delay.

I hate flying AA out of JFK/LGA. Most flights are connected flights and they probably use the oldest planes possible. I had like 3 or 4 last minute equipment swap delay for the past 2 years.

Both AA flights now airborne & at cruise altitude, flying high FL 380(00) - latest ETA is 13:57 and 14:09 - depending on which aircraft OP is on ... hopefully not on the Delta "bird" as that is getting in later.

Taxi to the gate & deplane will take more time, wait for luggage & then the 400 yards dash to taxi/Uber, as the NCL shuttle would likely be gone ... Good luck.

It is reasonable to "assume" that NCL would hold their ships a little while longer, but ...

Good luck.

Runner, I agree. Ships often sail late, for a variety of reasons, and there’s no inconvenience to anyone.

OP: I hope you make it!

Why do people insist on flying in on the same day their ship sails??? I work in the airline industry and I can't tell you how many times there's been a delay and people have missed their ship.

Fly in the night before and get yourself a comfortable hotel room for $100 and leave the stress behind.

The NCL "free air" promo is awful and this is part of the reason why. You can book flights from the NE to Florida for around $200 per person and almost anywhere else for $300 per person. Don't let NCL sucker you in because their airfare was only $149 or even "free". This is what ends up happening. Last month there was a couple flying from Detroit to Florida and NCL booked them on Frontier connecting thru Denver with an overnight connection at the airport from 12am to 5am. You seriously want to start off your vacation being up all night in an airport?

NCL Free air promo = SCAM!

I agree with everything accept the cost of $100 hotel for a  room, unfortunately out the door for me it usually way over that amount,  however taking a flight the day of the cruise is just asking for trouble,  never take a flight on the day of the cruise, just eat the cost of hotel.

I have read on here that for a $50.00 fee you can fly in a day early with the air perk.

That said, good luck to those delayed today...

There’s a lot of inconsistency about that. Some say yes others no.  I guess the thing to do is ask before committing

Out of ATL to MIA it is free, and non stop...so in reality, it varies regarding value...

I also prefer to go in a day before....always do if possible.

But keep in mind there can be spillover impacts...can the ship reach first port on time?, How much extra fuel does it have to use to get there?, what about casino and onboard shops delayed opening?, There are shoreside port personnel that can't end their day til the ship sails. I hope everyone makes it safely. I just wouldn't say there's no inconvenience to anyone.

I think you answered your question in your post. It is cost. You have hotel, food, and maybe an extra day of vacation if your ship sails on a Saturday.

Like many things marketed by NCL as free, the airfare is a scam.
