Do people really steal toilet paper on the last night?

Ive seen a similar thing a number of times in land based casinos, homeless would come in and check in between the slot machines for drinks left by patrons.

I'm not really sure I understand.  Why not just leave the spare roll?  If people don't need it, they won't open the spare roll. Even if some uses a few sheets, who would know?   Just fold the ends into a point.

Logically, if there is a solid partial supply of TP on the roller, I'm comfortable thinking that there will be an adequate supply for the guest. If there isn't and the cabin attendant adresses this with a new roll, then I don't think there is a need for another new full roll to be left in the cabin on last night as back-up.

Most of the time you're correct but if you are a little sick, you could have a problem.  But it's not a case of not replacing a roll on the last night.  They are going through and removing toilet paper.  To justify that extra effort, there must be a reason.  People must be taking the spare rolls.

You're noticing a procedure being followed and making a conclusion (People must be taking the spare rolls) when there are other possible conclusions.  (see my comments earlier in this thread for another possible, and likely conclusion.

 

I doubt there's enough theft of cruise ship thin marine grade toilet paper to warrant this procedure.  Otherwise, why not remove everything from the cabins the night before, including towels, washcloths, and anything not nailed down.  I'm sure there are jerks who steal the tv remotes too.

Wondering if there is a registry of pathetic  thieves so that as part of their cruise experience, they get an adequate number of rolls of toilet paper as a parting gift(s).  What else might they believe is of value to take?  

 

Surely Celebrity would not like too many kleptomaniacs per sailing?!

I did read your explanation and it doesn't make sense to me.  Sure I agree, remove any roll that's less than 3/4s full before the new guests arrive, but removing the spare rolls doesn't help.   If people don't need the spare roll, I don't think anyone opens the spare roll just for sport.  Even if I need to use a few sheets of the spare roll, it's still well above your 3/4 roll target.  If it is less, I'm sorry I was ill.  

 

Leave the spare roll where it is and replace the partial roll with a new roll.

 

So I'm looking for any other explanation other than it reduces theft of toilet paper.

And true.  Certainly not LOGICAL, but I'm glad your comfortable with it, I can assure you I wasn't and I'm sure I'm not alone.  Twice I explained it wasn't a matter of not replacing the TP but actually removing it from the cabin.   I was asking "Why the extra effort to remove the spare?"  It's ok if you can't help.

It looks to me like there may be an agenda that will never be met. I think that there is no longer an opportunity for discussion of ideas. 

 

Certainly it has not been put into evidence that TP is actually being removed as you described initially, so all of this fantasy is really just chit chat on a topic that really isn't supported by thousands of complaints, just your own conjecture about toilet paper being removed and what you think you might have seen as you exited the ship.

Years ago the BB team from AA was checking into a hotel for the first away game of the season.   The coach had a meeting and told all the players not to lower themselves by stealing  the towels, pillows, blankets and etc because they represented the school, and if they were going to steal anything they should show more class by at least stealing the TVs.  🤗

We have friends who are "boat people" so have been with them to buy marine grade toilet paper.

Will say Princess does provide the best possible "marine grade" so we should be happy about that because it could be so much worse.

Back to subject:  Stealing anything is sooooooo wrong.  Can't understand why some justify doing so.

If the OP was SO curious about this, he should have asked the room steward why instead of the ridiculous assumption that  guests routinely steal the one roll of tp to pack in their suitcases for the trip home.
