RC Oasis of the Seas vs Carnival Sunrise .. Help me!!

We are hoping to take a family cruise in 2020.  Our 2 options would be the newly refurbished Oasis of the Seas or the completely remodeled Carnival Sunrise.  Of course, Carnival Sunrise is just completely unknown since it is currently in dry-dock. The refurbishments scheduled later this year for Oasis seem to be pretty big, but not enough to make it a whole new ship.  However, we have never been on the Oasis so it will be a new ship to us no matter what.  I know comparing RCCL ship to Carnival is almost impossible.  I would like to hear everyone's thoughts, maybe just to help me think about something that I hadn't already.  We will be traveling with a large family from grandparents down to infants.

I'm struggling with this decision for a few reasons....I am the one making the plans so I want everyone to be happy.  We were extremely excited to have the Oasis coming to NJ in 2020 and really don't want to miss the chance at cruising on it.  However, other family members are interested in the Carnival Sunrise...mostly because of the ports. Cruise people problems...lol.

Oasis Class ships are the destination.  Ports are secondary. There are not many ships that come close in comparison to Oasis Class. The Sunrise is  20 years old, she will be up to date with the refurb,  and about half the size and will probably feel more crowded. Check out both ships on youtube to compare. There will be plenty to do for all age groups on Oasis.

I've sailed Carnival about 40 times, and was on the Destiny before it morphed into the Sunshine.  I've only taken one RCCL cruise and that was about 15 years ago.  I do have Symphony of the Seas booked for next January though.

That said, it might surprise someone that I too would opt for the Oasis over the Sunshine.  No contest, fuhgeddabotit.

I was hoping to hear from someone that likes Carnival! Our options are Oasis or Sunrise (Triumph). Both will be in the NJ/NY area next year. So, it will be our only chance on either of them. We usually cruise on Carnival, but last year we were able to cruise in the Anthem and had a great time. Honestly, we have a great time whenever we cruise. We have been in the Pride a few times and always have a great time. We just like the idea of seeing all the ship they send our way.

We have been on the Sunshine more than a dozen times. It has become our favorite ship. We had also been on the Destiny before Carnival spent $155 MILLION re-doing the Destiny and did they ever! They changed the name to the Sunshine so no one could compare it to the Desinty.

You said you have various ages on your cruise. The Sunshine is the only ship, Carnival or not, has an adult deck with no smoking- and they mean that- that Serenity deck is three levels. Deck 11 has chaises with umbrellas and a pool. Deck 12, were always are, has chairs in the sun and a deep area in the shade with small sofas completely out of the sun. DEck 14 is where  you can check out towels, get in the huge hot tub and take advantage of a full bar. There are also hammocks here and deep long like couches.  Everything on these serenity decks have thick, like 4", pads on the backs, seats, and foot rests too.

Deck 5 is where we want our cabin as they are the only cabins on this deck just past the very back and right above dining rooms ondeck 4 & 3. Other dining rooms are right off the atrim. Deck 5 is where the casino is, then the computer area with a dessert bar, the tables, a hall to the Red Bar in front of the Ocean lounge, with the band at night and HUGE dance.

Opposite the Ocean Lounge is the Allmacy Bar, for martinis. Deck 5 is where the fun nights are!

Carnival is known for fantastic kids programs and I have heard of kids crying because they don't want to leave when mom comes to get them.

The Sunshine is moving from Port Canaveral to Charleston, SC in May. I will probably do 5 days to Nassau & Freeport but will do a 7 day at least once a month.

Dining is below on decks 4&3. Other dining is next to the atrium.

Don't hesitate to let me know if you want more info. (we have well over 100+ cruises since 1985, 84 on Carnival, lots of others too!)

Not a true statement at all.  The adults-only Solarium on Oasis is smoke free.  It covers the entire forward, top decks of the ship and is 2 stories.  It includes a pool, 4 hot tubs and a bar.

The Solarium  is smoke free as it is indoors. There is a smoking area on the top deck open air part.

The Solarium on Oasis is partially glass covered, but it is not indoors.

Depends what you are looking for in a vacation. If you want to compare which ship has the most, it's really a no contest with the Oasis. If the ports are important, that is the weakest part of an Oasis class ship.
